A door cam captured the horrifying moment a man managed to grab a six-year-old girl and allegedly attempted to kidnap her.
Ken'Adi Nash was taking the bins out to the front of her family home in Hamilton, Ohio on Wednesday (24 August) when a stranger grabbed her by the arm and attempted to drag her away.
Luckily the six-year-old girl was able to scream loudly and break free of his grip, causing the man to walk away as though nothing was wrong.
Even more fortunately the whole thing was caught on camera as a doorbell cam collected footage of the entire incident.
Alleged attempted kidnapper 33-year-old Deric McPherson was later apprehended by police when the girl's father got in his car and followed him.
Ricky Nash drove after the alleged kidnapper and called the police, who soon showed up and put the handcuffs on McPherson.
The 33-year-old has been charged with abduction and gross sexual imposition, and has been sent to jail to await a court date.
The family told WLWT their daughter ran into the house shouting that someone had grabbed her and just tried to kidnap her.
The girl's parents explained they had previously taught their daughter what to do if a stranger tried to take her away and believe she was saved by following those instructions.
Ricky explained: "I've always told her that if somebody ever touches her, talks to her or grabs her, make a scene, scream as loud as she can and fight.
"She screamed bloody murder and pulled against him and got away from him."
The six-year-old girl told Good Morning America that the man who tried to kidnap her let go and walked away 'because I screamed'.
She said the attempted kidnapper 'touched me and pulled me', while dad Ricky said 'it took so much anguish away' when he saw police get handcuffs onto the alleged kidnapper.
Door cameras are proving to be surprisingly useful methods of warding off criminals, as people are starting to use them on their cars to keep thieves away.
A camera with a speaker allows people to see who comes up to their vehicle and tell potential thieves to back off as they've been spotted.
Meanwhile, other people who have ended up in dangerous situations have had their predicaments caught on a door cam with a delivery driver collapsing in the heat being spotted by just such a device.
