A woman was left in complete shock after thinking she was having colon surgery to find out that doctor's had actually saved her life.

Devlynn Cyr went into hospital in September, thinking she was getting routine surgery to repair her colon after complaining of chronic pain, constipation and inflammation for a long while.

Before the surgery, Devlynn was told she was getting an ostomy, which is a pouching system placed in the abdomen that provides a means for the collection of waste.

Instead of waking up to news the operation had gone without hitch and that her symptoms would be a thing of the past, Devlynn was told that she had stage 3 colon cancer, with doctors having to give her a hysterectomy while she was under anesthesia.

In a TikTok that has been viewed more than 1.5 million times, Devlynn filmed herself sitting in hospital just hours after she woke up and received the devastating news.

She bravely opened up on her cancer diagnosis, before later speaking to People about the terrible ordeal she has been through.

Devlynn said: "My husband gets a phone call halfway through surgery saying, 'Here's the problem. We found a tumor and it's cemented to my uterus'."

When the hospital called, her husband, Greg Cyr, saw it as a positive sign - but it was anything but.

"My first thought was that, ‘Wow, they're done already? That's good.’ I thought that was a good sign that things went smoothly," he recalled.

Greg then received the devastating news his wife had a tumor the size of a baseball.

"In order to safely remove the tumor, they need to do a hysterectomy," he said.

"Okay, so this is happening and this just got a lot more real."

Devlynn miscarried just a few months before the operation, and the couple had planned to try for children again.

Tragically, Greg was told the cancer had progressed that much it had caused damage to Devlynn's fallopian tubes and uterus.

When Devlynn woke up after the life-changing operation, she was told it would not be possible to have kids.

Speaking to People, Devlynn recalled the moment her husband told her the heart-breaking news.

She recalled: "All of a sudden, my husband sits on the bed and he's like, ‘I gotta tell you something,’ and my heart sank.

"He said, ‘I had to make a decision, and they gave you a hysterectomy, but you have no ostomy bag.’"
