People are claiming Mandela Effect after discovering what MD stands for in MD 20/20

People are claiming Mandela Effect after discovering what MD stands for in MD 20/20

Popular drink MD 20/20 doesn't stand for what you thought it did

People are only just learning what MD 20/20 stands for.

The fortified wine drink comes in an array of flavors and is strong enough to knock your socks off if you're brave enough to shot it.

And the drink will inflict a lot of nostalgia for some people as it might have been their drink of choice back in the day.

MD 20/20 was released in the 60s, but has remained popular ever since.

And since its release, a lot of people have been under the impression that the 'MD' stands for 'Mad Dog' - but you'll be surprised to know that this is actually wrong.

A picture is doing the rounds online of the delivery box that someone's MD 20/20 came in with the beverage's actual name on it.

The box states that the product is called 'Mogen David 20/20' and it's left people floored, with some now citing The Mandela Effect.

Mogen David is the producer of the drink.

One person has since explained how the nickname Mad Dog came to be.

Writing on Facebook, she said: "It’s because it used to have a dog on the label so I think we just all figured MD stood for MadDog."

Dozens of others also spoke of a dog once being on the cover of the bottle, but someone pointed out that they might be mixing up MD 20/20 with something called Red Dog beer.

"We only called it Mad Dog, because we were all mad for drinking that stuff," laughed someone else.

Others refused to accept that the MD stands for Mogen David.

"No way I refuse to believe this is called anything but mad dog," insisted one person.

Someone else quipped: "It is mad dog. Mogen david is a different kind of wine. It's never been a nick name."

"It was definitely Maddog," added a third.

"This is the biggest mindf**k I’ve encountered since joining this group," another shocked MD 20/20 drinker penned on the Facebook thread.

Others used the news as an excuse to share their personal experiences of drinking MD 20/20 and the gnarly hangovers they got from it.

"This picture brought me back to my house party I threw while my parents were away in 2000," shared one Facebook user. "Guy drank too much orange MD, puked all over himself and we had to carry him to the bathtub to clean him up. Just looking at this picture, I can smell it."

A different person joked: "I still feel a bit of the hangover from 15 years ago!"

Drink responsibly, folks.
