'I have not been this calm in many years': People are loving 'magic' mushroom-infused coffee

It has a number of interesting ingredients

If you've ever experienced the dreaded 'afternoon slump' at work, you've more than likely been tempted to make yourself an extra cup of coffee or grabbed an energy drink to get you through the final few hours in the office.

But that extra caffeine hit can often come with some undesirable side effects. We’re talking jittery hands, restlessness and even the odd headache — not to mention difficulty getting to sleep.

So how to get an energy boost without the side order of anxiety? Enter Orange County’s Brain Food Coffee, which promises energy and mood-boosting caffeine without those pesky jitters.

It’s safe to say that we were intrigued. So, here’s everything you need to know about the product.

Priced at £29.99 ($38) for a 200g Starter Kit Bundle of their Brain Food Coffee, which should give you enough for 30 servings, you can also save 20% by signing up for a subscription, taking it down to £23.99 (which works out at just 80p per serving). The company is based in the UK but ships internationally, including to the USA.

Plus, you'll get a free tote bag with your first order along with a hand whip to help you nail that perfect iced coffee.

The product itself is described as a 'smoother, more sustained energy boost without the crash,' by the British brand. And a lot of that has to do with the ingredients it's made with.

What ingredients does it contain?

Now, if you’ve not heard the word nootropics before, these are essentially supplements, which are often referred to as 'cognitive enhancers'. This means that they are designed to help improve bodily functions such as memory, focus and attention.

And Orange County’s Brain Food Coffee is infused with nootropics including Lion’s Mane mushroom, Rhodiola Rosea and L-theanine.

The first is thought to help maintain and grow neurons in the brain, while the herb Rhodiola Rosea is a de-stressor and is believed to balance cortisol levels in the body. And L-theanine is actually found naturally in tea leaves, and believed to have calming and relaxing properties.

Lion’s Mane isn’t the only mushroom to be included in this blend; there are three other fungi making up 4,000mg of the superfood in each serving. However, thankfully shoppers haven't been able to taste anything mushroom-y when they make a cup, so don't let the inclusion of them in your brew put you off.

Each serving also contains 80mg of caffeine and despite the fact that it is sugar and gluten free, you can mix it with your favourite syrups or milks to create your drink of choice. There's also the added bonus that it is vegan friendly.

What are customers saying?

While one shopper confirmed that it ‘does what it says on the bag,’ another shared the difference that Brain Food Coffee had made on their everyday life.

They explained: “I was very, very sceptical about trying this for the first time. After three days I am gobsmacked. I have not been this calm and able to concentrate like this in many years. Normally my gut controls me, my sleep and mood. Not since Monday. I will be ordering a refill.”

A third customer admitted: “I've never really believed in supplements, especially after trying every one to stay focused on studying every day. Congratulations, you managed to make me change my mind with these magic mushrooms!"
