The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a Class II recall of a popular soda drink amid fears over 'adverse health consequences'.

Many millions of Americans indulge in a fizzy drink or two every single day, so it's probably best to listen up to see if this recall affects you.

Drinkers of Dr Pepper that 19,203 cans have been recalled over fears of ‘serious adverse health consequences’ to consumers, having been set in motion on May 23.

The voluntary recall of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar cans was part of 12-pack and 24-pack cases of 12-ounce drinks.

Basically, the cases of soda were mislabeled, and found to have contained 'full sugar', as the FDA recall was marked as a Class II.

The regulator defines such recall as 'a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote'.

People with conditions such as diabetes and others that are sensitive to sugar often opt to go for diet versions of drinks to steer clear of the sugar content.

The cans in question have the product code XXXXRS05165, while they are said to have a best by date of February 16, 2026.

If people have been handed the drink that has over 30g of sugar, then they can receive a full refund.

Speaking of the sugar-free drink, Dr Pepper says on its website: "This zero-sugar captivates your tastebuds with the iconic blend of 23 flavors. It’s the delicious double-take your tastebuds deserve."

It comes after a disgusting trend which saw people ordering Dr Pepper with pickles in it from fast food restaurants.

A viral uploaded to TikTok last year by Mississippi Memaw, who goes by the handle of @mississippimemaw on the popular video platform, documents the trend in action.

In the video, she ordered a pickle-filled Dr Pepper at the drive-through of her local Sonic takeaway.

A restaurant worker takes out the questionable drink to Memaw, with the pickles being added as an extra charge.

The worker explained how she had to charge the customization by marking it down as cherries.

For the privilege of having some pickles mixed in, the TikToker had to pay $3.62.

The outcome, you ask? Well, a bunch of floating pickles in a previously inviting drink.
