A flight attendant claims they found a snake’s severed head in their in-flight meal, having shared a video of the unwanted meal addition on social media.

The SunExpress employee was flying from Turkish capital Ankara to Düsseldorf, Germany, on Thursday 21 July when they discovered what they believed to be a snake head in their lunch.

Sickening video footage shows a tray containing several containers of food, including what appears to be a lunch of pasta and vegetables.

However, in the middle of the white dish, you can what looks like the head of a small, grey-coloured snake nestled among the lunch.

SunExpress, which is co-owned by Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa and based in Antalya, Turkey, has said it is investigating the claims.

It said in a statement: “It is our top priority that the services we provide to our guests on our aircraft are of the highest quality and that both our guests and employees have a comfortable and safe flight experience.

"The allegations and shares in the press regarding in-flight food service are absolutely unacceptable and a detailed investigation has been initiated on the subject.

The SunExpress flight attendant shared a video on social media.

“Until the research process in question is concluded, all preventive measures and actions, including stopping the supply of the relevant product, have been taken immediately.”

According to Turkish outlet Gazete Duvar, staff have previously complained about finding beetles and snails in their in-flight food.

Sancak Inflight Services, the catering company used by SunExpress, has claimed that the snake head could not have come from one of its kitchens, added that dishes are cooked at 280 degrees Celsius.

SunExpress said it was looking into the incident.

“SunExpress Airlines is a valuable client in our country and a popular airline in Europe, which recently decided to further expand its fleet and route network,” it said in a statement.

“They again announced a tender for catering services on board. We did not use any of the foreign objects that were supposedly in the food when cooking (due to the technical and thermal conditions used in the in-flight catering facilities).”

UNILAD has reached out to SunExpress and Sancak Inflight Services for comment.
