Passenger who spent entire flight trapped in plane's bathroom gets note from flight attendant

The passenger was instructed to 'secure himself' in the tiny cubicle as the plane prepared to land

A man trapped in a cramped plane toilet received an alarming note under the door from airline staff after they realised they couldn't get him out.

The poor guy was even forced to sit on the closed toilet lid as the plane landed.

Travelling by plane is thoroughly unpleasant even at the best of times - but it's fair to say this passenger had a more unpleasant journey than usual.

Of all the places to get stuck in a plane, the only more unpleasant spot than the toilet would probably be if you were strapped to the wing outside, but at least then you'd get some fresh air.

On January 16 2024, SpiceJet Flight SG-268 had been travelling from Mumbai to Bengaluru, formerly Bangalore, in the southern Indian state of Karnataka - a mercifully short journey of just over an hour.

In a statement released after the flight landed, the airline said: "A passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour."

Fortunately the passenger was OK, but did have to endure a landing while sitting on the toilet.

An unnamed official from Benglaru airport told the Times of India: "The poor man flew from Mumbai to Bengaluru inside the toilet and, shockingly, landed trapped inside the tiny lavatory."

They added that the man had tried to get airline staff's attention to free him, and when they realised that they couldn't get him out, cabin crew posted a note underneath.

"Sir we tried our best to open the door, however, we could not," it began.

"Do not panic. We are landing in a few minutes, so please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, an engineer will come. Do not panic."

And that is indeed what happened, once the aircraft landed engineers got on board and were able to get the toilet door open, no doubt to the relief of the passenger inside.

He then received some medical assistance to make sure he was OK.

The story has since gone viral online, making headlines across the globe, and SpiceJet has issued the passenger a full refund for the flight and apologized over the incident.

"SpiceJet regrets and apologizes for the inconvenience caused to the passenger," SpiceJet said in a statement.

"Throughout the journey, our crew provided assistance and guidance to the passenger. Upon arrival, an engineer opened the lavatory door and the passenger received immediate medical support.

"The passenger is being provided a full refund."
