The Judge in the Idaho Four murder trial has revealed which two words will be banned from court as suspected murderer, Bryan Kohberger will be tried.

There are many updates happening in the Kohberger case, since he was arrested three years ago.

Kohberger stands accused of murdering four University of Idaho in the am of November 13, 2022.

The students included Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee Goncalves, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21.

All four were found deceased in their shared student King Road apartment in Moscow, Idaho on the same day.

Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt later confirmed that the cause of death for each student was murder by stabbing, in which the four students had been ‘butchered’ by an unknown assailant.

Why was Bryan Kohberger arrested?

Six weeks later, police swept in on Kohberger after matching up his phone location to the area several times, and finding a sheath to a knife, which is believed to have belonged to his father at the scene of the crime.

He has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, but the 30-year-old pleaded not guilty, and provided an alibi for the time of the killings.

Police believe that the four were murdered sometime between 3am and 4am, which left in its wake a crime scene that authorities described as the 'worst they've ever seen'.

Since then, there have been many updates, particularly when it came to the way in which the trial should be handled.

What words are banned from the courtroom?

His defense lawyers argued that words used to describe the assailant in the Idaho home should be kept from court after they were used by the surviving roommates to describe the person they saw in the early hours of the morning.

The criminal justice graduate student at Washington State University is expected to be present for his trial on August 11 after the jury selection on July 30.

At the hearing on Wednesday 9 April, Judge Steven Hippler accepted the defense’s motion to remove words from the courtroom and to follow the proper standard of court decorum.

He explained that the words ‘psychopath’ and ‘sociopath’ will not be used when referencing Kohberger, as per the lawyer’s request, as he had not received a diagnosis for either conditions.

However, when the legal team filed to remove gruesome photographs of the crime scene, Hippler declined to issue a general order against inflammatory conduct and that there is still a possibility that prosecutors could use ‘murderer’ during closing arguments.

“Make no mistake, these murders, whoever did them, were ... horrific. And I expect that the evidence will reflect that,” Hippler said as per the Daily Mail. “When it comes to cumulative evidence or some that are unnecessarily graphic, I think we will address that on a case-by-case basis.”

What else can be expected to follow in the murder trial?

In another motion, Kohberger’s defense attorney Anne Taylor claimed that the death penalty should be taken off the table if the jury comes back with a guilty verdict.

One of the reasons is that her client has a relevant autism diagnosis, which she plans to submit evidence about as a ‘mitigating factor’.

Allegedly, this evidence will be used to show jurors that some of his behaviors are related to autism, such as his mannerisms, his talkative nature and so on.

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder which affects a person’s ability in a range of ways, including social communication, black and white thinking, sensory difficulties and so forth.
