Amber Heard deletes Twitter account after Elon Musk takes over

Although there's no confirmation the account removal is linked to Musk's takeover, that hasn't stopped people from speculating

A number of people have noticed that Amber Heard has deleted her Twitter account, with many pointing out that it arrived just after Elon Musk took over the platform.

The Aquaman star has been the subject of much discussion online following the highly publicised defamation case with her ex husband Johnny Depp earlier this year.

Depp sued Heard for $50 million over an op-ed piece published in The Washington Post titled 'I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change'.

In response, Heard then filed a counter-lawsuit in which she sued the actor for $100 million due to the alleged 'smear campaign' he launched against her.

After countless interviews, celebrity testimonies and social media speculation, the trial eventually came to an end when the jury sided with the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.

He was awarded $10 million (£8 million) in compensation and $5 million (£4.3 million) in punitive damages, which was capped at $10 million, while Heard was awarded just $2 million (£1.6 million) for her counterclaim against her ex-husband.

Although Heard had remained on social media throughout and following the outcome of the trial, Twitter users noticed over the weekend that her account had been removed.

The news arrives after Musk completed his $44 billion (£38 billion) takeover of the platform last week, and the first few days in charge of the company have been eventful.

The SpaceX CEO has already reportedly fired top executives from the company, and has caused a stir amongst celebrities after suggesting a blue verification tick charge.

Whether Heard's departure from the social media platform is related is yet to be seen, but that hasn't stopped people putting their theories forward.

Morgan Tremaine – a former TMZ employee who testified for Depp's team in the defamation trial – wrote: "Hmm looks like someone didn’t want their ex-boyfriend to have access to their account and DM’s."

For those not in the know, Heard and Musk dated briefly between 2016 and 2017.

In response, one user said: "Damn you're on the money there! I didn't consider that," and another wrote of Heard: "I imagine she's quite uncomfortable about her data at the moment."

Many have been speculating why Amber Heard has deleted Twitter and a lot of the theories are surrounding Elon Musk's takeover.

Others have speculated whether the Tesla boss deleted the account himself, with another writing: "Elon Musk has most definitely deleted Amber Heard’s Twitter account."

Not everyone's convinced, however, including this person who said: "Not to try and start a new rumor but people are spreading that Amber Heard's Twitter account was deleted by @elonmusk.

"Personally I think it's BS. There's no reason Elon would have done it."

UNILAD has contacted a rep for Amber Heard and Twitter for comment.
