Olivia Rodrigo addresses rumors that her song Vampire is taking shots at Taylor Swift

Superfans have been quick to speculate who inspired the lyrics 'bloodsucker, fame f***er, bleedin’ me dry like a goddamn vampire!'

Popstar Olivia Rodrigo has opened up on the inspiration behind her track ‘Vampire’ and addressed whether the song references her supposed fallout with Taylor Swift.

Ahead of her sophomore album release, Guts, Olivia Rodrigo unexpectedly dropped ‘Vampire’ on June 30 via Geffen Records.

Upon its release, the track received widespread acclaim and has since been nominated for a phenomenal five MTV Video Music Awards including Song of the Year and Best Cinematography.

Reaching the number one spot on the US Billboard 100 and in countries such as New Zealand, Japan, Israel, Ireland, Canada, and Australia - it’s fair to say that fans really enjoyed sinking their teeth into ‘Vampire’.

However, the 20-year-old’s creation has also been subject to speculation regarding its lyrics - with many fans believing that they directly reference the reported ‘feud’ between Rodrigo and Taylor Swift.

The lyrics in question read: “bloodsucker, fame f******, bleedin’ me dry like a goddamn vampire!”

Fans have speculated that the ‘bloodsucker’ being referenced in the 32-year-old hitmaker as it is alleged that the pair have ‘fallen out’ due to a song credit issue.

It’s claimed that on Rodrigo’s breakthrough track ‘Deja Vu’ she interpolated Swift’s track ‘Cruel Summer’ instead of sampling it which led to Swift being given a co-writing credit and royalty entitlement.

The rumour mill also went into overdrive when the ‘Good 4 u’ singer stated that she was yet to attend The Era’s Tour in North America.

However, in a new interview with The Guardian, the former Disney actor has said that she was 'surprised' that fans thought ‘Vampire’ called out Swift.

“How do I answer this? I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about,” she said.

“I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t.”

“I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing.” Rodrigo stated before claiming that she was ‘very surprised when people thought that’.

Regarding the non-answer, fans have been having their say over on social media.

One Twitter user wrote: “Her team has had SO MUCH TIME to clarify that there’s no bad blood and have done nothing, but us Swifties who point this out are the demons??? smh.”

Another said: “How can Taylor be a ‘vampire’ and be Olivia’s ‘blood sucker’ when Taylor is light years bigger than her? Maybe THIS song is not for Taylor but I feel like definitely there’s something bad between them. Why?”

“I don’t see any reason for her to make a song like this for Taylor,” said a third.

Elsewhere, another music fan wrote: “It makes me sad that this is most likely true, especially with how she worded things and danced around it.

“I do find it entertaining that she decides to bring Taylor up this close to her album release. the music she dropped so far is not on par with Sour at all.”

Guts, Olivia Rodrigo’s second album, is due for release on September 8th.
