Brit Award Winner Holly Humberstone Shares Her Influences On UNILAD Sound's Rising Playlist

Holly Humberstone won the Rising Star Award at the Brits last night, now she's shared her influences on UNILAD Sound's Rising playlist.

In case you missed it, the Brit Awards took place last night, February 8, so naturally we went out and got ourselves a winner to rustle up a Rising playlist for us.

While we're all incredibly happy for Adele and her three awards, the Brits also give you chance to catch up on new and emerging artists – like Holly Humberstone, who walked away with this year's Rising Star Award. Holly follows in the footsteps of Sam Smith, Florence + The Machine and, well, Adele, so it gives you an idea of where she's heading.

Growing up watching the Brits and being blown away by the variety of artists coming together on such an evening, Holly says it 'doesn't feel real' that she's now one of them. Having started writing songs in her childhood home in an attempt to reveal 'the chaos' in her head, connecting with fans and collecting a Brit Award has catapulted her out of those four walls and into the limelight.

That doesn't mean she's leaving her past life behind though, far from it, in fact. 'People can connect to a song more if it's just me and my unfiltered thoughts. That's what I look for in music that I listen to – a personal connection. Everything I'm going through is universal. Everyone's been through these situations, it's not just me,' she says, so don't expect her to lose touch with her roots just yet.

Fresh off the back of her Brit win, Holly is releasing new single London is Lonely, her most heartbreaking and poignant song yet; a track that documents her move to London and the feelings of disconnection and isolation it brought with it. Again, it's a feeling we can all relate to. 'London felt so intense, and although there were so many people around me, I felt even more isolated and like I didn't belong. I kind of lost myself in the city.'

Naturally, it was music Holly found solace in, going home and writing songs 'felt like my safe space', she says.

Now, she's shared an exclusive Rising playlist with UNILAD, giving us an insight into the sounds she found comfort in, and inspiration from, during that time.

With songs from Laura Marling, Hand Habits, Adrianne Lenker and Julia Jacklin, Holly's Rising playlist draws perfectly on her creative influences, sharing with us an insight into the musical world she inhabits and where she might go next, with that Brit award tucked safely under her arm.
