PlaySation Plus users warned of key change to avoid losing significant amounts of money

The change of wording may confuse some people

PlayStation Plus users have issued a warning to others who subscribe to the service after Sony made a change to it.

Launched in 2010, there are now three PlayStation Plus membership plans: Essential, Extra, and Premium. All options give gamers access to things like monthly games, Share Play, cloud storage, and online multiplayer, while (as you'd expect) Extra and Premium have additional features.

As per IGN, the prices start at $9.99, going up to $14.99 for Extra and $17.99 a month for Premium, and people have found that they're paying for the subscription even though they were under the impression that they had turned off auto-renew.

There was once an option to 'Turn off Auto Renew', which would stop a rolling subscription payment but would allow you to continue using the service until the end of the month. This is now changed to 'Cancel Subscription', however.

The change has left some people confused as it implies that the cancelation is imminent, but the subscription actually continues until the end of the month as well.

But as a result of the change, some people aren't canceling their subscriptions in time and thus being charged again.

With the change in mind, PlayStation users have taken to Reddit to inform other gamers about it.

"PSA: PS Plus Subs must be cancelled," one person said.

Elaborating on this further, someone else wrote: "The 'cancel subscription' button used to be the 'turn auto renew off' button. People just still commonly refer to it as that."

"I think they purposely did that to scare people onto not cancelling incase they lost access to ps plus," somebody went on to suggest.

They added: "Of course if you read it properly it tells you the date it will be cancelled. But I still find it annoying that they changed the wording to make it seem more dramatic than it actually is lol."

Elsewhere, people said the first thing they do after buying a subscription plan (commonly a year-length one) is cancel it.

"When I renew for a year in the sale the next thing I do is cancel it, so I do not automatically renew," one PlayStation user shared.

Another echoed: "The first thing I do when I buy a PS Plus subscription is cancel it, so I don't have to worry about forgetting to do so closer to the expiration date."
