Tom Hanks has been nominated for two awards for bad acting

The infamous Golden Raspberry Awards honour the worst of cinema over the past year, and Tom Hanks has landed two nominations

Tom Hanks has been nominated for two awards for bad acting in this year’s Razzies, with Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde also picking up several nods.

The infamous Golden Raspberry Awards honour the worst of cinema over the past year, having served as the antithesis of the Oscars for the past four decades.

The ‘Razzies’, as they are affectionately known, were set up by UCLA film grads and industry experts John JB Wilson and Mo Murphy in 1981, with a statuette for winners of a raspberry sitting on top of an 8mm film reel spray-painted gold.

Nominations for 2023 have now been announced ahead of the ceremony on 11 March, which takes place the day before the Academy Awards, honours the best of the industry.

And Tom Hanks, 66, has landed mentions in two Razzies categories: Worst Actor for his turn as Gepetto in Disney’s Pinocchio, and Worst Supporting Actor for his role as Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis Presley biopic Elvis. Pinocchio has also received a nod for Worst Picture.

Razzie co-founder John Wilson told Sky News: "Tom Hanks is one of the industry's greatest actors, with a 40-year career of almost entirely successful projects and, as such, he usually has our admiration.

"But in 2022, he made a pair of bold (but unfortunate) choices that did not work for him. Part of why his Razzie nominations are getting so much attention is the fact that he is a great actor... Most of the time."

However, it’s Netflix’s Marilyn Monroe drama Blonde that has led the way this time, with no less than seven nominations.
