Viewers think critics are wrong about Netflix's new number one movie

Netflix's Top 10 list has proven time and again that what critics deem a flop doesn't always spell a movie's success

Netflix's Top 10 list has proven time and again that what critics deem a flop doesn't always spell a movie's success.

Adding yet another piece of cinematic evidence to the pile is The Curse of Bridge Hollow, a horror comedy starring none other than Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland.

Rowland is the mum of a family – played by Scary Movie star Marlon Wayans and Stranger Things' Priah Ferguson – who move to the seemingly quiet town of Bridge Hollow.

But things quickly descend into chaos when Ferguson's character Sydney accidentally releases an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween (as you do), causing the town's spooky decorations to come to life. You can watch the trailer below:

Since dropping on Netflix last week (14 October), critics haven't been too favourable of the movie, which has garnered a rather disappointing Rotten Tomatoes score of 41%.

"It’s all very familiar, and dispiritingly so," wrote Roger Ebert's Christy Lemire, who gave it just one and a half stars.

And elsewhere, The New York Times' Calum Marsh said: "This setup promises a gleeful escalation of comic pandemonium, but the film fails to deliver."

However, it's a different story altogether with viewers, with The Curse of Bridge Hollow currently sitting comfortably in Netflix's number one spot in its list of top ten films.

Some even went as far as to say it was better than Halloween Ends, which also dropped last week ahead of the spooky season.

As said by one fan on Twitter: "The Curse of Bridge Hollow was better than Halloween Ends lol good job @MarlonWayans."

"The Curse of Bridge Hollow was good AF," wrote another, while a third even called on Netflix for a full series, stating: "Just watched The Curse of Bridge Hollow, I need a show – Neow."

A fourth chimed in: "The Curse of Bridge Hollow was fun to watch. It was like experiencing Hocus Pocus for the first time or when the Cheetah Girls first dropped.

"Feels like a classic and I hope there’s another movie."

Well, with the film proving such a hit with audiences, you never know – there could be a sequel down the line.

Until then, be sure to check out The Curse of Bridge Hollow if adventure-comedy is your thing and you're in need of a heavy dose of Halloween spirit.
