Stranger Things fans have been left both baffled and angry by the Rotten Tomatoes score given to the epic fourth series which came to an end this month.

Netflix users were forced to wait almost three years between series three and four of Stranger Things, but while the wait was painful, creators The Duffer Brothers made sure to make it worth it.

Released on the streaming service in two parts, Stranger Things 4 finally offered an explanation for the bizarre happenings in Hawkins; it took the characters on new adventures and saw them face stakes higher than ever before.

The series had heart, drama and an incredible playlist, but in spite of all that, its Rotten Tomatoes rating isn't as good as many would expect.

Out of all four series, it's the first that currently sits as the highest rated with a Tomatometer score of 97 percent on the website.

The fourth series, which many claim to be the best, actually sits at number three, with a score of 90 percent at the time of writing (7 July).

It's placed just one percent above its predecessor, series three, though at one point was ranked equal to the third series with a score of 89 percent. It's currently still a few percentage points behind series two, which has a score of 94 percent.

The critics have had their say when it comes to the best Stranger Things series.
    Rotten Tomatoes

Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score is based on the opinions of 'hundreds of film and television critics' and is described as a 'trusted measurement of critical recommendation' for millions of people, but lots of Stranger Things fans are arguing that the experts have got it wrong this time.

After news of the rankings were shared online, one fan simply dubbed it as 'nonsense' and added, "This was by far the best season," while another responded: "Season 4 is the best season [in my opinion]."

A third Twitter user wrote: "Season 4 is easily the best season. All are great but season 4 is amazing. Then 3,1,2."

In spite of the arguments describing series four as the best, the Tomatometer ratings are actually backed by the Audience Score ratings, which have ranked series one as 96 percent, series two as 90 percent, series three as 86 percent and series for as 89 percent.

Both the critic and audience ratings remain high for all four series of Stranger Things, so there's no denying the show has consistently succeeded in entertaining its fans. However, it looks like viewers will just have to agree to disagree when it comes the question of which is best.
