Is there anything better than a secret villain being revealed in a TV show?

Whether it be The Good Place, Only Murders in the Building, or hell the reveal of Walt being Heisenberg in Breaking Bad, a secret villain revealing themselves is always a great plot twist.

Fans of an Apple TV+ ‘10/10’ thriller deemed ‘one of the best TV shows ever’ (by fans and me alike), reckon they’ve spotted a secret hidden villain in the show.

The show in question is Severance, and for anyone who watches the show, the idea of secret hidden details will not come as a surprise.

Severance asks the question, if you could split your consciousness and make it so that you have no memory of going in to work, what happens to the version of yourself that only exists at work.

Cheers AppleTV+, I didn’t need to sleep tonight as is.

The concept may be mind-bending and freaky, but that only scratches the surface of how weird and bizarre Severance gets.

Lumon, the company the characters all work for, is the obvious villain of the show.

This, however, includes people who are implanted into their lives on the outside, with the primary antagonist Harmony Selvig, played by Patricia Arquette, being revealed to be the main character Mark’s (Adam Scott) neighbor.

Now, fans of the show are starting to have suspicions about Mark's love interest Alexa (Nikki M. James).

One post on r/SeveranceAppleTVPlus noticed on their third watch of the show that Alexa, who goes on a date with Mark, has an odd reaction to his behaviour.

They posted saying that their suspicions began ‘during their first date’.

They said: “My suspicions began during their first date. Despite Mark’s erratic behavior, Alexa neither reprimands nor condones his actions. It’s almost as if she’s observing him without trying to influence his behavior.

“Mark invites Alexa to the concert instead of going home for the night. He’s explaining his relationship to the band.

"As Mark starts piecing together Petey’s story, Alexa interrupts him with a kiss. If you take rose coloured glasses off this becomes a suspicious interaction.”

Petey, played by Yul Vazquez, is a former ‘severed’ coworker of Mark, who goes to the outside world to try and warn him of what’s going on.

They went on to say: “The most telling moment comes in the scene where Alexa tells Mark that his sister asked her for lactation experts and she says that she gave Mark's sister some numbers to call.

"This leads to Mrs. Selvig showing up. This interaction could be the most damning evidence that Alexa is actually aligned with the ‘bad guys.’”

One fan added: “I figured it out because Nikki James is a little too accomplished of an actress to be cast as a disposable character.”

While we may have to wait until next January for Apple TV+ to bring Severance back, this has made the wait all the more interesting (and gives me an excuse to rewatch it).

Severance is available to stream on Apple TV+ now.
