Scarlett Johansson admits there were a lot of movies Marvel 'didn't end up making'

The 38-year-old opened up about playing Natasha Romanoff on The Skinny Confidential Him & Podcast.

Since 2010, Scarlett Johansson has been portraying Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - and it turns out that she was on board to make more movies that never came to fruition.

The appetite for MCU films seems to just keep growing and growing, and as long as they keep bringing in the big bucks, they'll keep getting made.

As such, it's a big commitment for any actor, and Johansson said there were more movies in the pipeline that ended up being abandoned.

"I had a very unique trajectory with Marvel because I was there from the from the beginning," she explained.

"Yes, when I signed on to to play Natasha Romanoff it was like, a lot of films.

"But there were movies that we didn't actually end up making, and so I was able to kind of go back in and say, 'OK, let's look at this again. We made this contract before Marvel knew what they were doing, and let's sort of figure out what the path of this character is going to be'."

She also added that Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel, would never try and push through a movie that actors don't want to make.

The Jojo Rabbit star continued: "And honestly, I love my Marvel family and Kevin Feige, who's our boss man over there.

"He loves working with actors so much. He's such a cinephile. He like lives and breathes this stuff.

"He's an incredible storyteller and an amazing person on many, many levels, and is a really special collaborator and I think he never wants to make anything that actors don't want to do. He's never going to hold you to to be in something."

Johansson also spoke about being the highest-grossing actor of all time - but was pretty modest about the incredible achievement.

Basically, if you were one of the big stars of Avengers: Endgame, then there's a good chance that you'll feature in the top 10 earners.

Alongside Johansson in that film, we've got Robert Downey Jr. in second place, Samuel L. Jackson in third, Chris Hemsworth in fifth place, Chris Pratt in sixth, and Chris Evans in eighth.

Elsewhere on the list, Zoe Saldana is in fourth, with her role in Avatar holding up quite a lot of her total gross, as well as Tom Cruise – who has been in just about everything ever – in seventh, we've got Tom Hanks in ninth and Vin Diesel rounding out the top 10.

"I thought it was Sam Jackson or Robert, but somebody told me yesterday I had surpassed them," the actor said.

"I'm pretty sure it's just till the next Sam Jackson movie comes out."
