For the majority of actors, securing a role in an MCU film would be the pinnacle of their career and is one that very few will have the privilege of doing.

However, Nicolas Cage is certainly not your average actor, with the star being regarded as one of the most recognisable figures in the film industry.

Starring in the likes of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, Pig, and Face/Off - Cage has so far collected a SAG award, an Academy Award and a Golden Globe during his career.

A massive talent indeed.

But while Cage has dabbled in the world of Marvel superheroes before, starring in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and two Ghost Rider movies, the actor has never actually been part of the MCU.

If they haven't already appeared in an MCU film, most big named actors have been linked to potentially star in it, and Cage is no exception.

After accepting the Variety Legend & Groundbreaker Award at Miami Film Festival on Sunday (5 March), Cage spoke about the numerous projects that he has worked on.

He was also asked about the state of superhero films today, to which he replied: "I’ve gotta be nice about Marvel movies, because I named myself after a Stan Lee character named Luke Cage.

"What am I going to do, put Marvel movies down? Stan Lee is my surrealistic father. He named me."

The actor continued: "I understand what the frustration is. I get it. But I think there’s plenty of room for everybody.

"I’m seeing movies like Tár. I’m seeing all kinds of artistic and independently driven movies. I think there’s plenty of room for everybody."

Cage was then asked whether he would ever want to be in the MCU, and his response couldn't more Nicolas Cage if it tried.

"I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage."

Elsewhere in his acceptance speech, Cage also spoke on the many film genres he has covered in his nearly 40-year career so far.

And there were two in particular that are his favourites: "My personal favourite is independently spirited family drama.

"I like movies that take place at home and the struggles we have at home and how we’re trying to either succeed and become better people or succumb to the pressures of the human experience. My other favourite genre, I would say would be horror.

"Some of the most talented artistic people now are making horror films. I think you can do so much."
