Nicolas Cage says Face/Off sequel could see his and John Travolta's kids facing off

It's been more than 20 years since we saw Travolta face-off with Cage

Nicolas Cage has suggested a sequel to Face/Off could see his and John Travolta's kids experiencing a face-off situation of their own.

From Freaky Friday to The Change Up, there have been a number of films involving characters which take on the other's faces.

But rarely has the new look been taken on by choice, and with the intention of foiling a terrorist plot. Enter, Face/Off.

The 1997 film saw Travolta's character, FBI agent Sean Archer, undergo an experimental surgery which not only gave him Cage's face, but also his voice and overall appearance.

It might sound extreme, but Travolta evidently had no other choice when it came to stopping criminal mastermind Castor Troy, played by Cage, who had previously killed Archer's only son.

It's been more than two decades since we saw Travolta transform into Cage, and the Ghost Rider star thinks that's more than enough time for the characters to welcome another couple of children into the world.

Following in the footsteps of their fathers, Cage suggested a sequel could see these kids entering into a face-off of their own. Again, extreme, especially for someone in their early 20s, but Cage thinks it could work.

In an interview with Collider, the actor described a potential sequel as one which 'lends itself to a lot of twists and turns and unpredictability'.

He continued: "It's almost like if you factor in the idea of offspring and Castor and Sean having children and these children grow up, then it becomes like three-dimensional chess, and then it's not just the two, John Travolta and myself, it's four of us ping-ponging and going at different levels, and it becomes even more complex. I think there's a lot of fertile ground there."

Cage went on to discuss the prospect of director Adam Wingard taking the reins from John Woo on a sequel, indicating he'd be happy to work with Wingard as he described him as 'great'.

"I think we share similar tastes," Cage said, adding: "We have similar sensibilities. I liked everything he did with Godzilla vs. Kong and I think that he's smart. He has respect for cinema and various kinds of iconography. I think it would be great."

A sequel for Face/Off isn't officially in the works just yet, and while Cage revealed he had 'maybe one meeting in an office', he said he hasn't 'heard anything since'.

Still, he's obviously got the plot figured out - however confusing it might be - so we're at least part of the way there.
