Zoe Saldaña has opened up about her journey with James Cameron's Avatar series.

Saldaña has starred in The Terminal, Emilia Pérez and Star Trek, however, she's probably best known for her recurring role in James Cameron's iconic Avatar franchise in which she plays the role of Neytiri.

The epic sci-fi franchise kicked off in 2009 with the first Avatar movie released in December, meaning Saldaña was 31 years old when the first film came out.

However, in an interview with Deadline's video series, The Actor's Side, Saldaña noted she was actually 28 years old when she first 'signed on' to the franchise.

She reflected: "I was 28 when I signed on and will be 54 when we finish."

Which - if you do the math - means Saldaña will have been involved in the Avatar franchise for a staggering 26 years - over a quarter of a century.

And it's not taken long for fans of the series to flock to social media to weigh in.

One Instagram user said: "It’s her biggest earning and very well deserved. Amazing movies."

"She’ll never be broke that’s for damn sure, smart move," another added, while a third commented: "That blue my mind."

And a fourth resolved: "Well.. i guess we know her character doesn't die. Not until the last movie at least.. eh."

The first of the Avatar series became the highest grossing motion picture of all-time and fans ended up having to wait a whopping 13 years later for the second instalment.

The second instalment - The Way of the Water - was released in 2022 and the third in the franchise is currently anticipated for release on December 19, 2025 - after its original release date of December 2024 had to be pushed back as a result of the Covid pandemic and writer's strikes.

The fourth release is reported by Screen Rant as being expected on December 21, 2029 and reportedly shot back-to-back with the fifth movie, some parts of it already filmed to avoid the younger cast members aging too quickly.

Producer John Landau told ScreenRant: "The first act [is already shot]. Because truth be told, there's a time cut after the end of the first act [of Avatar 4], and we needed to get all the kids before they got older and shoot all that out."

The fifth Avatar movie is expected on December 19, 2031 and well, whether there's a sixth or seventh, we'll have to wait and see.
