Tyrese Gibson has said he will never work with James Franco again and ‘wanted to blow up his hotel room’

I think a few people in Hollywood would agree with him

When it comes to hating James Franco, Tyrese Gibson seems to have had a head start on the rest of Hollywood.

Seth Rogen recently spoke about how he would never work with Franco ever again, despite the pair’s years long working relationship.

This came following accusations of sexually inappropriate behaviour from multiple women in 2018.

Gibson, however, has hated Franco since as far back as 2006.

The pair worked together on a film called Annapolis, which was filmed during the peak of James Franco’s method acting days.

Here's the incredibly 00s trailer for it:

The movie follows Franco as a training member of the Navy, with Gibson playing his commanding officer.

Annapolis culminates in a boxing tournament, the final of which being between the two leads.

During the filming of scenes like this, normally they make it look like the actors are hitting each other through camera trickery.

In the case of Annapolis, they were really beating the sh*t out of each other.

In an interview with Elle Magazine, Gibson said about practice: “I was always like, ‘James, lighten up, man. We’re just practicing.’ He never lightened up”.

Supposedly when filming the final product, Franco actually punched Gibson full on in the face.

He went on to say: “I respect Method actors, but he never snapped out of character. Whenever we’d have to get in the ring for boxing scenes, and even during practice, the dude was full-on hitting me.”

Franco admitted to his fault in the problems with the film, as he would later say in 2014: “I take full blame for any problems on that film. If he had a bad experience working with me, I was probably a jerk.

“I was not purposely cruel to him, but I was probably so wrapped up in my performance that I was not as friendly as I could have been.

“But when I’m asked about it in the press it makes it seem as if it’s still an issue. I think Tyrese is a sweet guy with a good heart. I wish him all the best.”

This does not seem to have always been his view though, as he told GQ in 2008: “I hear he wants to blow up my hotel room”.

He may not be willing to go that far, but there is clearly no love lost between the pair.

Gibson would later say when speaking to Playboy magazine: “I never want to work with him again, and I’m sure he feels the same way. It felt very personal. It was f**ked-up.”

Considering he turned up to act in a film and was suddenly fighting for his life with Franco, I don’t blame him.
