The creators of South Park have revealed why they are not planning to release another series of the show until 2025.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker opened up about a different direction that they want to take South Park, which means that they want to hold off until 2025.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, they explained their reasoning for the delay.

South Park has become one of the most well-known cartoons out there for its close-to-the-bone humour which pokes fun at just about everything.

The show's most recent outing was released in May 2023, called The End of Obesity.

It was based on the use of Ozempic as a weight loss drug and took the show's typically irreverent tone on the subject.

Another big event which the show has parodied was the console wars between XBox and Playstation, which the show did in the style of Game of Thrones.

You're probably starting to see a pattern of parodying zeitgeist moments here which will give you a clue as to why the creators want to wait.

Unless you've been cut off from all means of interacting with the outside world, which if you're reading this is unlikely, you'll be aware that the US is gearing up for an election this year.

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will face off in the presidential race which has proven one of the most tumultuous campaigns in recent years.

South Park is well-known for its parodying of current events in the US, and has previously made no bones about laying into Donald Trump.

A storyline following teacher Mr Garrison's transformation into Trump as he becomes president, despite his shocking and outrageous comments saying plans to 'f*ck 'em all to death', is one of the series best known storylines.

But now the creators have said that even they just want to leave politics alone now as the election cycle grinds on.

Parker said: “We’ve tried to do ‘South Park’ through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing — it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance."

The comedian added that the election was 'obviously f*cking important', but they felt it was difficult for them creatively.

He said: “It kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun."

As for the Trump jokes, the pair think that they have run out of mileage with Trump, with Parker adding: “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”
