'Insane' CGI from Mission: Impossible 7 had people believing sequences were 'filmed for real'

The visual effects team behind Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning Part One has revealed some 'behind-the-scenes' footage and it's breathtaking.

While there's no denying Tom Cruise does the majority of the jaw-dropping stunts in the latest of the Mission Impossible franchise, there were some scenes which had to take place against the back-drop of a green screen.

However, It's almost impossible to tell which scenes have been edited, given just how incredible the CGI is.

Now, a YouTube video has since revealed what went on behind-the-scenes for Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning Part One.

Visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic took to social media earlier this month on 14 January to reveal some 'behind-the-scenes' from the movie.

Showing a series of before-and-after shots of certain scenes, the company reveals what went into various moments of action; like when Cruise's Ethan Hunt and Hayley Attwell's Grace were on top of a fast-moving train.

The first moment sees the pair standing on top of the fast-moving train. The before shot shows a train with members of crew wearing hi-vis jackets onboard and the transition shows how each special effect was layered on top.

The carriages created over the top of the crew, the actors popping into view, alongside additional foliage and some toning of the colours.

In another shot, Cruise can be seen standing on top of the train. The before shows him against the backdrop of several green screens in a studio, but the after shot shows him against a backdrop of mountains, trees, a bridge and snow.

Truly cool stuff.

As Cruise ducks down and flattens himself on his stomach as the train goes under a tunnel, in the before image you can see the trainers and green legs of a camera person.

After, as if by magic, the camera person is gone and the visual of the end of the tunnel is added, alongside some additional smoke.

Industrial Light & Magic also show how it made it look like the bridge explodes, clouds of smoke and dust billowing out before part of the train goes catapulting off the end of the track and into the 'sea'.

And the company reveals how it created the moment Cruise and Atwell run up the train as it falls off a cliff - the train carriage actually being strung up like one of those amusement park rides which twists and turns you side-to-side, with the actors suspended by wires. Check the jaw-dropping effects out here:

It's no wonder we're all so obsessed with Mission Impossible.

Oh, and you get more of an insight into Cruise doing his own epic stunts too, the video topping it all off with the moment Cruise gets on a dirt bike and goes soaring off the end of a cliff.
