Fans think awkward video is proof that Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix ‘hated’ new Joker film after terrible reviews

In a promotional interview for the film, the pair exchanged a knowing glance after being asked if they liked the final cut

Fans of the Joker movies were left cringing after catching an awkward moment with two stars of the sequel, which dropped in cinemas this week.

Joker star Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga had been doing a promotional interview for the upcoming movie, Joker: Folie à Deux, with British broadcaster ITV when the moment happened.

The movie is a sequel to 2019's Joker, which explored the origins of the mysterious character, and was widely acclaimed.

Initially the 2019 movie was conceived as a standalone story. Phoenix played the role of a socially reclusive clown who suffers from a health condition where he can't stop laughing, even if the moment is very inappropriate.

As the movie progresses he becomes increasingly disaffected by the society he inhabits, culminating in a live appearance on a talk show where he attacks society's hypocrisy.

Phoenix was praised for his performance, which saw the character's descent into the nihilistic worldview he is so well known for.

However, while the first film was critically acclaimed audiences think that one moment in the interview could be an indication of something unfortunate about the upcoming movie.

When asked about the movie, and specifically about whether or not they liked the final cut, the pair exchanged a knowing look and burst out laughing.

People immediately took to social media to share their theories about what they actually thought about the new movie.

One person wrote: "They hated it", while another commented: "They knew then it was a massive sh*t show didn’t they!?!"

A third replied: "I love Gaga so much. But this movie hurmmmm"

Meanwhile others were saying that the moment reminded them of actors doing a press tour of another project which did not go down well with audiences.

This was the final season of Game of Thrones, which received a less than favourable response from both fans and critics.

The main thing was the difference between the first season of the show and the last, with many people feeling that there was a significant drop in the show's quality.

People took to social media to share how they felt this was echoed in the way the actors responded to the question.

One person commented: "This is giving Emilia Clarke when being asked about the last season GoT."

Meanwhile, another said: "I‘m getting Game of Thrones flashbacks."

Joker: Folie à Deux was released in the US on October, and sadly it seems that the fans' premonition may have been correct as the movie received unfavourable reviews from critics.
