House of the Dragon fans were sent into a frenzy when a well-loved character made a return to the show.

Season two is well underway and it's safe to say that it hasn't disappointed so far.

In true Game of Thrones fashion there's already been controversial nudity, incestuous sex scenes and, of course, dragons.

Now there's been the return of a season one character and it's sparked fans of the show to express how much they miss them - and that character is Viserys Targaryen (portrayed by Paddy Considine).

House of the Dragon fans will know that Viserys died a rather slow and painful death at the end of season one after long battling incurable leprosy which eventually ate away at the king's face. Gross.

He's remembered as Viserys the Peaceful, a far cry from his tyrant son Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) who has been battling his half-sister and Viserys' first-born child Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) for the throne.

But Viserys hasn't come back as a White Walker to torment his problematic kids, but in a vision to his troubled brother Daemon (Matt Smith).

Daemon sees his late brother sat on the Iron Throne, in a flashback to a season one scene in which Viserys calls Daemon out for labelling his deceased son Baelon, who died shortly after being born, 'heir for a day'.

Viserys goes on to tell Daemon he is no longer his heir.

The former king also comes to his brother a second time in a more cathartic dream sequence.

Seeing Viserys weeping over the corpse of his wife Queen Aemma Arryn (Sian Brooke), Daemon seems to imagine things the way he wished they'd gone: holding Viserys in an embrace and saying: "I’m sorry. You needed me. I’m here now. I’m here now."

While Daemon puts on a cold front, could he now be developing some kind of conscience?

In the wake of Viserys' cameo, people have been quick to take to social media to express how much they miss him and Considine's acting on the show.

One person said: "Exceptional episode of House of the Dragon tonight. Aemond’s scenes were amazing, was great to see Paddy Considine back as Viserys & holy s**t Daemon finally coming to terms with the fact he’s going insane was overdue."

"The presence of Paddy Considine has been missed in this season of House of the Dragon," echoed a second. "His acting was brilliant."

A third viewer gushed: "It's so nice to see Paddy Considine as Viserys again. A wonderful reminder of what is truly one of the best performances of the entire franchise and makes me want to rewatch the early episodes again."

House of the Dragon is available to stream on MAX.
