It's time to return to House of the Dragon with the new trailer for the upcoming second season.

Though there are only eight episodes in the new season, as opposed to the 10 in season one, director Clare Kilner has assured fans that there's still plenty to look forward to.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Kilner said: "There are eight wonderful episodes with so much happening in every episode, and we have trouble, at times, bringing them down to one hour.

"Ryan's decision was to give it a good opening and a good ending, and they're jam-packed with emotional and visually exciting events."

Many of the cast members from the first season of House of the Dragon will return in the new episodes, with Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke and Emma D’Arcy all reprising their roles for the series based on George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood.

New cast members set to appear in the upcoming episodes include Simon Russell Beale as Ser Simon Strong, Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome and Kieran Bew as Hugh.

Viewers will also welcome Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark, and Vincent Regan as Ser Rickard Thorne, as well as Freddie Fox, who takes on the role of Ser Gwayne Hightower.

Fox spoke with the Radio Times about what viewers could expect to see in the upcoming season, and if you were expecting dragons, then you're in luck.

He revealed there are 'a lot of dragons', before adding there are also 'developing, dark, machinating relationships, brilliant acting, an increase in the battles and fighting as war begins'.

Fans have expressed their excitement for the new episodes of the show, especially as it was initially thought that the new season wouldn't arrive until August.

"Nothing else will matter when this drops. June 16th it is, we will be there," one excited fan commented.

Another wrote on X: "#HouseOfTheDragon season 2 is gonna be an epic experience... Cannot wait more!!!"

"Yeah this looks like vintage Game of Thrones. This season is gonna be crazy," added a third.

House of the Dragon season two is set to debut on HBO/Max at 9/8c on June 16, 2024.
