'Brilliant' footage shows behind the scenes motion capture from Planet Of The Apes movie

Fans online praise Toby Kebbell for his performance in the Apes franchise

There are some films that just stick with us because of the cinematic experience they provide.

This is why, when some behind-the-scenes footage gets released, it’s pretty amazing to see how the production team made these experiences happen.

With the case of the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise, which was followed by two more shortly after (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes), the cinematic viewing was like no other.

As a spectator, you were transported beside a scientist and his beloved chimp, battling growing tensions and wars together before shedding tears after losing vital characters.

In the case of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, there was one thing in particular which drew fans in - Koba’s decent into chaos and destruction.

It showed a growing nation of genetically evolved apes led by James Franco’s Caesar, who is terrorised by a group of human survivors after breaking a short-lived peace treaty.

The ensuing war is grim and violent, and Koba is the catalyst of it all, striving to obliterate the human race and live in an ape-populated world.

With big names such as Andy Serkis, James Franko and Judy Greer, it’s no surprise that the Ape franchise, directed by Matt Reeves, was a massive hit.

But there was one actor who fans think went above and beyond in his role playing the villainous chimp, Koba - Toby Kebbell.

This English actor is no stranger to brilliant roles. For instance, he has a huge following due to his roles in films such as Dead Man's Shoes, Control, RocknRolla, Fantastic Four, and more.

He was even in the popular TV show, Black Mirror, and it was one of the best episodes.

The film was a box office success.

But it’s his dedication to his craft that catches the hearts of fans.

In an unseen clip of behind-the-scenes footage, there is surely no room left for doubt about the amazing ways that directors and actors are able to create another world that realistic and immersive.

Using popular motion capture, an actor needs to be hooked up to a sensor which captures all of their movements and facial expressions.

It can look a little funny, especially as skin showing is essentially dotted with many circles to process expressions.

But Kebbell completely embodied malicious Koba in this clip of him manipulating two opposing men, pretending to be a dim-witted ape in order to gain command of their guns to take them out.

The scene is a pivotal turning point in Koba’s character arc after he began to have more extremist ideologies about winning the war than his logical commander, Ceasar.

However, watching Kebbell act out Koba’s mannerism and villainy, it’s an incredible performance, to say the least.

Fans who got to see the clip online were ecstatic, calling Kebbell one of the best actors and hoping to see his work in more projects in the future.
