Movie fans could be in for a bumper year in 2026, with a number of major titles set to hit the big screen.

Taking to Twitter, one person posted a list of some of the most hotly-anticipated movies which are set for release in 2026 and it's safe to say it's a real treat for movie buffs.

They wrote: "Big screen lovers, rejoice! 2026 is shaping up to be an epic year for movies."

And there are certainly plenty of big names up there to watch out for.

So, what can we expect to see in 2026?

The Batman Part II

Robert Pattinson will return as the Caped Crusader for a second outing after his first movie as the character in 2022, with the sequel directed by Matt Reeves.

Aside from Pattinson the movie's cast has not yet been fully confirmed, though it's possible we'll see the return of Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, and Andy Serkis.

A sequel to the 2023 movie is scheduled for release on April 3 2026.

While the cast has not been confirmed, it's likely we'll see Chris Pratt's Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy's Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key's Toad, Charlie Day's Luigi, Jack Black's Bowser, and Seth Rogen's Donkey Kong returning.

The Mandalorian and Grogu

Fans of the popular Disney+ series will see the Mandalorian and Grogu hit the big screen.

The hugely popular series took a 'space western' approach, with a new movie directed by Jon Favreau called The Mandalorian and Grogu set to begin production in 2024.

They don't stop coming and they don't stop coming. No, not the years, but Shrek movies it would seem as the fifth instalment in the Dreamworks franchise has been confirmed.

The movie will be the first in 16 years since Shrek Forever After in 2010, with Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy set to return as Shrek, Fiona, and Donkey.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping

The sixth instalment in the Hunger Games franchise will show games of Haymitch, a veteran winner and mentor to Katniss.

This is set during the 50th Hunger Games, 24 years before Katniss was a tribute and 40 years after the world shown in fifth instalment The Ballad of Songs and Snakes.

The gang are back in the fifth instalment from Pixar since the very first outing in 1995, with the last coming out in 2019 and topping $1 billion at the box office.

Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the fifth Toy Story movie in February 2023, with the movie now set for a 2026 release.

Moana live-action

Moana will join the growing list of Disney films to be adapted into live action feature films, including Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast.

Catherine Laga‘aia has been cast in the lead role, and filming is set to begin in the summer of 2024.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty

Yes, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is in fact still going, with a slew of films set for release over the coming years.

Among them is the fifth Avengers movie, which is rumoured to be bringing the Multiverse Saga to an end as the first in a double bill movie, though it's not yet clear which Avengers will be appearing.

But while some were excited by the previews of movies coming out in 2026, a lot of people had a rather different outlook on the offering.

One pointed out there were no fewer than three 'part fives', writing: "All these part 5’s is crazy."

Another wrote: "Sequel, sequel and more sequels," while a third posted: "Where’s the originality?!?"

Others echoed the sentiment, with one asking: "How about something new?"

Meanwhile, someone else posted: "So nothing new just tired sequels."
