Underrated sci-fi filmed in five days on $50,000 budget called 'one of most terrifying films ever'

Coherence released back in 2013 and was made in just five days with a $50,000 budget

An underrated sci-fi movie that was filmed in five days on just a $50,000 budget has been dubbed as 'one of most terrifying films ever'.

There is no questioning that making movies is pretty damn expensive. Heck, the most expensive film ever made to this day is 2015's Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which cost a whopping $447 million.

Well, this particular movie that you may want to watch if you dare this Halloween is Coherence - which is certainly a lesser known film compared to some of the big hitters.

Released in 2013, and directed by James Ward Byrkit, Coherence is cleverly shot in just one sequence and was made with a $50,000 budget.

An official synopsis for Coherence reads: "Eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of events due to the malevolent influence of a passing comet."

Coherence was released in 2013.

On top of that, the film encompasses some quantum physics, parallel realities and just some rather up and down emotions, creating a truly remarkable story.

Coherence stars the likes of Emily Baldoni, Maury Sterling, Nicholas Brendon, Elizabeth Gracen, Lorene Scafaria and Hugo Armstrong.

While many like to know who features in a movie they are about to watch, is it how the film was put together in such a short space of time that has had many people intrigued.

Speaking to IndieWire back in 2014, Byrkit was asked how the improvised dialogue in Coherence was achieved in such a short period of time.

He said: "We shot over five days, and instead of a script I had my own 12-page treatment that I spent about a year working on.

"It outlined all of the twists, and reveals, and character arcs and pieces of the puzzle that needed to happen scene-by-scene.

The film is an ideal Halloween watch.

"Each day, instead of getting a script, the actors would get a page of notes for their individual character, whether it was a backstory or information about their motivations.

"They would come prepared for their character only. They had no idea what the other characters received, so each night there were completely real reactions, and surprises and responses.

"This was all in the pursuit of naturalistic performances. The goal was to get them listening to each other, and engaged in the mystery of it all."

And it appears that Coherence is the ideal film to stick on this spooky season, with one viewer even calling 'one of the most terrifying films ever'.

While another said: "Probably the best movie ever created. PERIOD."
