The second official trailer for Father Stu, starring Mark Wahlberg, has been released.

Despite the film almost not being made, Wahlberg committed to a gruelling diet in order to put on the pounds for his upcoming role as Father Stuart Long.

The film is based on the real-life story of Long, who travelled to Los Angeles in a bid to find money and fame after an injury ended his amateur boxing career.

The first trailer for the drama dropped back in February, however, today (27 April), a second official preview has been released.

Catch the second trailer here:

Wahlberg gained a total of 30 pounds for the role in order to accurately represent his character's muscular generative disease, inclusion body myositis.

However, the 50-year-old actor not only changed his diet for the role, but also adopted some interesting facial hair, which is showcased in all its glory from the very first opening moment of the latest trailer.

The trailer gives a further glimpse into Father Stu's blossoming relationship with the church, weekly visits of which are spurred on after meeting a Sunday school teacher during one of his shifts as a supermarket clerk.

Upon the teacher explaining she 'can't date someone who isn't baptised,' Father Stu responds: "Where's the water? I'll do it now."

Resolving he's going to be a priest, Stu's confused mother, Kathleen Long (Jacki Weaver) questions: "For Halloween?"

In the second official trailer, Stuart Long tells his mother he's going to become a priest, to which she responds: "For Halloween?".

"It's life-changing," another said, in a montage of video reviews put together by the film's Twitter page.

A third said: "I'd go see it a million times over."
