A binge-worthy Amazon Prime series recommended by Stephen King was likened to a 'page-turning' novel by the acclaimed author.

You might be up-to-date with the latest episodes of King's new Amazon Prime, sci-fi thriller The Institute.

Starring Joe Freeman, it follows a young boy held in captivity by a shadowy organization who are attempting to harvest his telekinetic abilities.

King has long been a fan of the streamer's own TV series, including one fans have claimed is a '10/10'.

From Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn, the series in question follows a tight-knit group of internet friends who reunite at a comic convention.

There, they discover a series of cult graphic novels which appear to be able to predict future global catastrophes.

From ecosystems collapsing, deadly pandemics and a secret vaccine agenda, it's pretty scary stuff.

As they get stuck into the comics, though, they find themselves the target of a mysterious organization which appears to be plotting a synthetic‑meat‑linked outbreak - and a vaccine rollout scheme, tied to elite conspiracies.

The TV show we're referring to is called Utopia, and it's based on the 2013 British thriller series of the same name.

It released to Amazon Prime Video in 2020... yeah, I know.

King took to Twitter around a month after the show released in October 2020 to share his thoughts.

"I'm loving UTOPIA, on Amazon Prime," he said. "Might not be everyone's cup of tea, given the times we're living in, but it has the slow build to full steam that I associate with page-turning novels."

He labeled the series 'horrifying, violent, and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny'.

Some social media users were in agreement, as one said: "Utopia on Prime Video is a MUST WATCH!! If you have Prime 10/10 I recommend it."

Others told King to watch the 2013 UK series, as they thought it was leagues above the US remake.

To be fair, the original did score a 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score against the 2020 version's rather measly 50 percent.

However, fans reckoned the US edition got a bad rep. Mainly, because it dropped during the Covid-19 outbreak...

Critics praised its 'cast and mystery', but remarked how viewers might find the whole thing 'too timely - in a bad way'.

Over on IMDB, one fan described Prime Video's Utopia as a 'crazy, funny, engaging pandemic drama you need to watch'.

"I binged it all without breaks," they admitted, before adding: "With all episodes meticulously filled with twists and fun elements, Utopia for me is one of the best shows I have seen this year."

A second labeled it 'an easy show to binge with some great acting', as a third simply summarized: "Compelling. Shocking. Just great TV."

Both the UK and US versions of Utopia are streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
