The first trailer has dropped for Umbrella Academy season four, marking the final outing of the hit Netflix show.

Here is the trailer:

Showrunner Steve Blackman has confirmed that season four will be the last for Umbrella Academy, saying: “I'm so excited that the incredibly loyal fans of The Umbrella Academy will be able to experience the fitting end to the Hargreeves siblings' journey we began five years ago.

"But before we get to that conclusion, we've got an amazing story ahead for season four, one that will have fans on the edge of their seats until the final minutes."

Releasing August 8, the entire season will drop at once on Netflix.

The finale to season three sees the family powerless and stranded in a new dimension where their father is revealed to be alive.

The full cast will be returning, including Elliot Page, Aidan Gallagher, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, David Castañeda, Tom Hopper, and Justin H Min.

They will be joined in the final season by new cast members, Parks and Recreation stars Nick Offerman and Megan Mullaly.

Season four, despite being the final season for the Hargreeves, will be a shortened affair, only six episodes as opposed to the normal run of ten.

Umbrella Academy is based on a comic book of the same name, however the show has deviated from the comics to a certain extent.

Beyond major plot points, one example of this is the character of Viktor.

This followed the real-life transition of the show’s star, Elliot Page, who came out as trans in late 2020.

The storyline in season three addressed this head on by having the character request they are known as Viktor moving forward, and that being the large majority of discussion around it for the season.

Page was tight lipped in the past when asked about what the final season entailed for the Hargreaves family.

When asked by Radio Times about the final season, he said: “I’m not really allowed to say anything but it's gonna be, as per usual, very fun, classic Hargreeves chaos and hijinks.”

Knowing Umbrella Academy though, one thing is for sure - it’s going to involve them saving the world.

The final season releases amid controversy, however, with showrunner Blackman being accused of misconduct and abuse on the show.

In a report released by Rolling Stone, twelve staffers on the show have accused Blackman of creating a ‘toxic work environment’ entailing ‘bullying and sexism’.

The staffers, who have remained anonymous, are made up of writers and support staff.

While Netflix has not yet responded to these reports, reps for Blackman responded to Rolling Stone’s report, calling it ‘entirely untrue’.

They said: “These allegations from a handful of disgruntled employees are completely false and outrageous, and in no way reflect the collaborative, respectful, and successful working environment Mr. Blackman has cultivated.”
