A post-apocalyptic Netflix series with a rare 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating is currently available to stream - and even the King of Horror Stephen King is a fan.

When it comes to thrilling miniseries’, Netflix truly takes the cake. This year alone there’s been Stephen Graham’s Adolescence, the newly-released Zero Day starring Robert De Niro and former Doctor Who actress Jodie Whittaker’s Toxic Town.

But in October 2020, the streaming giant added another limited gem to its library - Pavel Kostomarov’s To the Lake.

The eight-episode TV show, set in Moscow, fits neatly into the post-apocalyptic thriller category, seeing Russian residents becoming infected with an unknown deadly virus.

Sergey, played by Kirikk Käro and his wife Anna (portrayed by Viktoriya Isakova) are feeling from the epidemic with their son Misha (Eldar Kalimulin), Sergey’s ex-wife, Irina (Maryana Spivak) and a neighbouring family.

However, when they arrive on a deserted island in the middle of Vongozero, a tale of terribly tragic and cruel family drama is played out.

Not only does Sergey have to contend with his quarantined city being run by savages fighting for food and fuel, but he also must deal with growing tensions between his wife and his former spouse.

Netflix's To the Lake is a chilling tale that has won the hearts of fans and critics alike - one of them being lauded author Stephen King.

Three days after Netflix acquired the first season of To The Lake on 8 October 2020, the Misery author took to X, then known as Twitter, to proclaim the show as ‘pretty darn good’.

“Four things to know: 1. There's a plague,” he continued. “2. There's lots of snow and cold (Russia, stupid).

“3. Everybody drinks vodka. 4. Weak-ass spoiler alert: the little kid is a pain in the ass.”

King isn’t the only fan of Kostomarov’s thriller, which is based on the 2011 novel Vongozero by Russian writer Yana Mikhailovna Vagner.

To the Lake’s Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score is a rare 100 percent, with The Spectator describing it as ‘superbly acted, with a thrilling plotline’.

The TV show’s Rotten Tomatoes audience score is also pretty high, with an average 81 percent rating.

If you’re a Netflix binger who loves diving into a show with multiple seasons then you then you may be disappointed to hear that only one season of To the Lake is available to stream.

There was another series created, this time directed by Dmitry Tyurin, however it has never been shown outside of Russia due to the ongoing Ukraine war.

All eight episodes of the 100 percent-rated miniseries To The Lake are available to stream on Netflix.
