Netflix fans who are loving a top-rated miniseries hailed as 'addictive' have a huge reason to be excited.

Subscribers have praised the '10/10' crime thriller and say it's so gripping, they're binging it in just two days.

Having released back in 2021, the Danish show - called The Chestnut Man - is based on a book of the same name by author Soren Sveistrup.

Set in Copenhagen, it unravels the mystery of a young woman found dead with a cryptic chestnut figurine hanging above her body.

Detectives Naia Thulin and Mark Hess (Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Folsgaard) take on the case, and soon learn the murder is linked to the daughter of a politician who went missing a year prior.

The six-episode TV series was awarded a perfect 100 percent Rotten Tomatoes score by critics - so it's not one to be missed.

And last year, it was confirmed a sequel series to the celebrated Netflix show is on the way.

So fans of The Chestnut Man can safely binge away, knowing there's more action to come...

When will The Chestnut Man sequel release?

Back in March, Deadline reported there would be a 'standalone series sequel' to The Chestnut Man. The drama is slated for release in 2026, however - so fans will have a little longer to wait yet.

Denmark's largest movie website, Kino, also reported that as of October 2024, filming was in 'full swing,' with the project due to be wrapped by January.

Who is in the cast?

Danica Curcic and Mikkel Boe Folsgaard will reprise their roles as detectives Naia Thulin and Mark Hess in the upcoming drama.

Kino also reported The Killing's Sofie Grabol and Maybe Baby's Katinka Lærke Petersen would join the cast.

Back in November, Sveistrup released a follow-up novel, titled Count to One, Count to Two.

With The Chestnut Man based on his first book, we can assume the sequel is likely to follow the plot of the second.

Its synopsis teases that Naia and Mark reunite to investigate a brutal murder which is linked to the killing of a higher schooler which remained unsolved.

"With no weapon but his phone, a perpetrator manipulates and humiliates his victims, leading them into a web of humiliation and cold-blooded control." the synopsis states.

Our detective duo soon discover the killer enjoys 'a perverted game of hide-and-seek' - one that began one spring day more than 30 years ago, and one that must be fearlessly confronted before more victims are ruthlessly murdered.

The Chestnut Man is available to stream now on Netflix, with its sequel landing in 2026.
