Fans of Bridgerton were left scratching their heads - and recoiling in horror - as 'Boris Johnson' popped up in the new series.

During a scene where Simone Ashley's character, Kate Sharma, was lying in bed, viewers believe their spotted the Prime Minister lurking in her bedroom.

As Kate looks up to her ceiling, the camera cuts, showing a cherub-like figure staring back at her. Sharing the blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment to TikTok, one fan said the resemblance to the UK's leader is uncanny.

Posting the vid, @txharvey said: "Talk about ruining the vibe."

The clip also asks fellow TikTokers: "Why is Boris Johnson in Bridgerton?"

I mean, if you really squint, they've got a point.

And there were many, many people out there who seemed to agree. Commenting on the post, one user said: "I thought I was going insane when I saw that in the show."

Agreeing, another chimed in: "I would love to know who the set designer was that snuck this in."

Can you see Boris Johnson?

"No wonder she couldn't fall asleep," someone (half) joked, while another asked: "How did I not notice that?"

But not everyone saw the same thing.

"I thought it was Albert Einstein," shared one.

For those of you who aren't massive fans, the period drama, which originally hit the small screen at the end of 2020, was an instant hit and in its first month, Netflix revealed it had been courted by a whopping 63 million households.

The series follows the lives of a number of high-class families, particularly their daughters, as they navigate through countless balls and luncheons in pursuit of a husband.

In season one, we saw Daphne Bridgerton reject the proposal of a prince and marry the Duke of Hastings, and the Featheringtons lose their fortune.

The period series is a smash hit on Netflix.

Its biggest twist, which kept viewers guessing throughout, is a Gossip Girl-esque plot in which Lady Whistledown’s daily column shapes the outcome of each character’s life.

Series two finally landed last month and it's proving as popular as the first.

One critic said: "The new season of the Netflix smash hit may not be as physical, but in the crackling chemistry and relentless self-denial that defines the leads’ dynamic, there’s plenty of eroticism."

What more could you want from a show?

Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix now.
