Netflix reveals Sex Education season 4 will release this year

It's time to go back to Moordale!

Netflix has just announced that the fourth and final season of Sex Education will be released later this year.

Sex Education fans have been waiting patiently since September 2021 for a new season of the hit show, and now it finally feels closer than ever.

On Netflix's Tudum blog today (1 May), the streaming giant revealed what we can expect in 2023 - and the fourth season of Sex Education has made the cut.

While a specific date wasn't announced, Netflix teased what we can expect from the fourth season, writing: "Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier: their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College.

"Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, while Eric is praying they won’t be losers again.

"But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students — they thought they were progressive, but this new college is another level."

Anyone else as excited as I am?

Of course, when we last saw the Sex Education gang, a *lot* of drama went down.

For one thing, new principal Hope Haddon (Jemima Kirke) tried to give Moordale a major revamp and seemed to have it out for Otis' mum Jean (Gillian Anderson).

Then there was Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Adam's (Conor Swindells) rocky attempt at a relationship, which didn't have the happy ending that so many fans were hoping for.

And, after finally making up with Otis (Asa Butterfield), Maeve (Emma Mackey) decided to spread her academic wings and move to America.

Perhaps the most dramatic moment of the season came from Jean, who, after an utterly traumatising haemorrhage, welcomed a baby girl named Joy.

It was sort of assumed throughout the season that the baby's father was Jakob (Mikael Persbrandt), who Jean has been dating on and off for quite some time.

But in the season finale, Jean got an unpleasant surprise when she opened the paternity results and utters a quiet: "Oh s**t."

Who's the father of Jean's baby??

And they're just the highlights!

There are so many unanswered questions going into season four: who's the father of Jean's baby? What's going to happen to Moordale Secondary? Will any of our favourite couples ever be happy together?

While Otis, Eric, Maeve and Jean will all be returning, some fan favourites will be unfortunately missing from this season.

Patricia Allison, who played Ola - Otis's ex-girlfriend-turned-step-sister - said goodbye to Sex Education after season three to work on other projects.

Confirming the news to Capital 1Xtra last summer, she explained: "Some other opportunities have come up. So, I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve like genuinely loved it."

If Ola is out, then it doesn't fare well for her dad Jakob's chances in Jean's paternity test.

Tanya Reynolds, who played Ola's alien-loving girlfriend Lily, is also out this season - so you'll have to source your weird tentacle fantasies elsewhere.

Ola won't be in season four.

Speaking to LADbible about the move, Tanya said: "My character's not back either.

"I was expecting people on this [promotion for new comedy] to ask that question, so I haven't really, yeah, I haven't really spoken about it yet, but Lily's not back either.

"It will be, it will be great... it will be great. There'll be lots of new characters and people will forget all about little old Lil."

Meanwhile, Simone Ashley has also graduated early from Moordale High after landing the role of Kate in season two of Bridgerton.

And Rakhee Thakrar, who played Moordale's sweet English teacher, will be missing from this season too - though she hasn't been able to say why.

Thankfully, as far as we know, everyone else is sticking around for now.
