MrBeast responds to Netflix making an American version of Squid Game

MrBeast has responded to the rumours of Netflix looking to make an American version of Squid Game.

The YouTuber, who's real name is Jimmy Donaldson, famously re-created his own version of the South Korean hit series back in 2021.

For anyone that needs a little reminder, the premise for the show is when 456 players, who are in major financial ruins, compete against one other in a selection of deadly children's games for a prize of 45.6 billion won - around $28 million.

It quickly became one of Netflix's most popular shows of all time and it also quickly became one of the most re-enacted things on the internet.

But no one recreated Squid Game better than MrBeast.

Donaldson produced each of the six challenges from the hit Netflix series, which included intricate building sets of Red Light, Green Light, the marbles arena, the tug of war and the glass hop game.

Squid Game is one of Netflix's most successful series.

He also managed to get 456 players to take part, going head to head in the hope of claiming the $456,000 jackpot.

In less than 24 hours, the video had been viewed 30,097,332 times. And according to reports, YouTubers generally make between $2 and $5 for every 1,000 views on a video.

So if you calculate that for the top end of his potential earnings, Donaldson may have made a whopping $150,486 in the first 24 hours.

And now, at the time of writing, the views are at a mega 403 million, which suggests that his earnings from just that one vid could be in the region of $2,015,000.

Crazy stuff.

Despite making the 'best US version of Squid Game' - it seems that MrBeast is not best pleased with the rumour mill, which is suggesting that the US might actually be bringing their own version to Netflix.

Industry insider Jeff Sneider of The Hot Mic podcast broke the news on socials.

He wrote: "HOT RUMOR: Netflix is courting DAVID FINCHER to produce and direct an American take on SQUID GAME.

"No idea whether he's engaging, but they want him to tackle this project BADLY, per multiple sources."

The confused YouTuber reacted very quickly to the news, commenting: "Isn’t that what we did? Lol."

MrBeast was quick to react to the rumoured news of an American remake.

It is indeed.

Obviously nothing is confirmed and it is just rumours at the moment.
