Netflix has given fans a glimpse into what’s to come in the upcoming second season of the gruesome and addictive Squid Game.

At this point, you will have likely had at least one of your friends recommend Squid Game to you, and it is for good reason.

The South Korean show proved to be immensely popular when it debuted on Netflix back in 2021. It became the streamer's most-watched series and most-watched program in 94 countries.

And while I feel the TV show ended brilliantly by the end of season one, plenty of fans have been clamoring for a second season.

The dystopian survival thriller series followed a group of 456 contestants partaking in a series of challenges to earn a colossal crash prize. The big catch was, if you fail the challenge, you die. Pretty much win or go home... to the clouds in the sky.

Squid Game received 14 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, with leading actor Lee Jung-jae making history as the first Asian actor to win the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for a non-English part.

It also swept the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. So yeah, pretty popular amongst critics as well as general viewers.

And now, fans will be glad to know that long wait for the second season is almost over as Netflix has today (31 October) dropped another teaser trailer. Check out the trailer here:

It will hit the streaming platform on December 26, and many can hardly hold in their excitement.

In the first season, even though everyone who participated in the games technically chose to be there, the show made clear that those who chose to risk their lives did so because they knew their lives outside the games would be miserable or possibly short-lived.

While it's not exactly clear what season two has in store for viewers, it looks like Seong Gi-hun (Lee) is down for round two of the deadly games - and most fans are expecting equally bleak and fascinating games and choices for the contestants to make.

The teaser promises Seong Gi-hun's return to the games after that season one cliffhanger, and also appears to be teasing some of the chilling new games that are in store.

Writing on Twitter, one user wrote: “Ready to lose sleep over this again.”

Another excited fan wrote: “This is certainly the best Christmas gift for everyone!" as a third wrote: "I’m not even gonna pretend like I won’t be watching every episode."

And another added: "Looks like we're in for another wild ride with those high-stakes games. Grab your snacks and buckle up!"

Squid Game season two will drop on Netflix on December 26, 2024.
