Halle Berry has paid tribute to fellow X-Men star Adan Canto on social media.

Canto passed away earlier this week on Monday (8 January) at the age of 42.

The X-Men: Days of Future Past star had previously been diagnosed with cancer of the appendix, but kept his journey with his illness private.

Canto's representatives confirmed his passing in a statement.

It reads: "Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many."

Canto's wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, wrote on Instagram: "'Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.' Mathew 6:19-21. Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon."

Canto's own page also announced his death with a black and white image of the actor and a quote from The Lord of the Rings' Tolkien: "The 'good' of the world depends on the behavior of an individual in circumstances which demand of him suffering and endurance far beyond the normal, demand a strength of body and mind which he does not possess."

The caption adds: "A man who never once complained and inspired so many. We love you forever Adan."

And Canto's co-star on the X-Men movie, Halle Berry has also taken to social media to pay tribute to the late star.

Canto played Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Taking to her page yesterday (9 January), Berry shared an image of Canto.

The caption reads: "I don’t have the words just yet…. but my dear sweet friend Adan just gained his wings. Forever, forever in my heart."

Alongside starring in X-Men: Days of Future Past as the character of Sunspot, Canto also starred in 2022 drama The Cleaning Drama and political drama Designated Survivor.

Fans of the actor have also flooded to social media to pay tribute and commemorate him.

One Instagram user commented on Berry's post: "Unbelievable! I met him once and he was very kind. Sorry for this loss. Prayers up for his friends and family."

"I'm so sorry for your loss my deepest condolences to you and his family," another added.

Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment also said in a joint statement: "We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Adan Canto. A wonderful actor and dear friend, we were honored to have him as part of the Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment families since his U.S. debut in ‘The Following’ more than a decade ago.

"Most recently, he lit up the screen in ‘The Cleaning Lady’ with a powerful performance that showcased his artistry, range, depth and vulnerability.

"This is an unfathomable loss, and we grieve alongside his wife Stephanie, their children and loved ones. We will miss Adan dearly."
