Blade has turned 25 years old and people are marveling over the superhero flick that was ‘way ahead of its time’.

Stephen Norrington's 1998 gothic vampire movie has certainly paved the way for MCU’s comic book adaptation success.

And now that the film has officially been around for a quarter century, the internet is relishing in some of the movie’s most spectacular moments - who could forget that epic opening scene?

For those who aren’t quite up to speed, Blade, played by Wesley Snipes, is a Dhampir, a human with vampire strengths but not their weaknesses, who fights against vampires.

In the film’s opening sequence, Blade infiltrates a Los Angeles vampire-owned club as human blood gushes down from the ceiling sprinkler, terrifying the human party-goers.

Blade wastes no second slaying the vampires as ‘Confusion’ by New Order plays.

The cinematography, soundtrack and special effects are simply chef’s kiss.

One person on Twitter celebrated: “Happy 25th Anniversary to the legendary BLADE and happy anniversary to one of the greatest opening scenes in film history.”

Another said: “25 years ago today, we got this absolute banger of an opening with BLADE.”

A third wrote: “The opening sequence for Blade has never been matched.”

While another shared: “I've said that for years... the opening five minutes of 1998's BLADE needed to be expanded into a full-length action movie. The opening fight sequence was paced and choreographed so well! The rest of the movie paled by comparison. You could say I'm a small fan of 1998's BLADE…”

Empire Magazine writer Tom Nicholson says the film 'looks a couple of decades ahead of its contemporaries'.

"It anticipates not just the techno-goth stylings and cyber-paranoia of The Matrix, but the box office juggernaut which Marvel – and this is a Marvel film, let’s not forget – would turn into," he wrote.

Luke Cage star Mahershala Ali is set to play the iconic vampire killer in a reboot for Marvel, which was first announced in July 2019 during San Diego Comic-Con.

Michael Starrbury (Now They See Us) is developing the script alongside True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto.

Da 5 Bloods star Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre will also join the cast in roles that have yet to be announced.

Comicbook.com also reported there are whispers that The Boys actor Antony Starr could play Dracula. Yep, I'm on board for that.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, production was supposed to commence in Atlanta in July 2023; however, Pizzolatto said that ‘time simply ran out’ due to the writers strike.

The outlet reported that production will restart once the strike has finished.
