Michael Slavin is a Film and TV writer for LADbible. After completing an English Literature with Creative Writing degree at Surrey University, followed by a Masters in International Journalism at Salford University, he began working for the Warrington Guardian as a reporter. Throughout this though, he did freelance work about Film and TV for publications such as DiscussingFilm, looking for any excuse to get to rant about films. He has now finally got that wish.

Say it quietly, but Marvel have had a bit of a good streak going in recent times.

Last year saw Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 3 being universally praised, and The Marvels receive a solid 82 percent with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – even if it didn’t translate to being a box office hit.

Now in recent weeks, the Deadpool and Wolverine trailer had fans declaring that Marvel is back – and a new TV show has received a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score.

The TV show is a revamp of an old show that ran in the 90s, and was beloved by every nerdy kid around the block (myself included).

I’ll give you a hint, it had the best theme song ever, a stellar voice cast, and the most garish 90s outfits you’ve ever seen.

If you guessed the 90s Spider-Man, you’d be wrong.

The show in question is X-Men ‘97, a Disney+ revival of X-Men: The Animated Series which ran from 1992 to 1997.

Though it released to minimal initial fanfare, the show has quickly grew a cult following due to one specific reason.

    It’s f***ing great.

The show at the time of writing has 98 percent on Rotten Tomatoes as well as a 9.0 average rating on IMDb - and fan hype is growing with every episode released.

This week’s episode, titled ‘Tolerance is Extinction’, kickstarts the show into the final three episode arc – and featured a cameo from a beloved Marvel character, who himself was the subject of a cult 90s animated series.

    Spoilers ahead!

If you guessed Spider-Man to the earlier question you may feel hard done by – because the 90s character appeared in the newest episode of X-Men ‘97.

For many, the X-Men and Spider-Man animated series were what got young Marvel fans into the characters, so to see them back together was a dream for us nerds.

And it's fair to say that his cameo got a lot of people very excited.

One fan posted on X to say: “90S SPIDER-MAN HAS RETURNED IN X-MEN ‘97 HE'S AS BEAUTIFUL AS THE DAY I LOST HIM”.

And the replies were in full agreement with the hype, with someone else saying: “NOW THIS IS PEAK OUR SPIDEY IS BACK”.

While another praised the updated animation, saying: “His art style hasn't changed, but the animation is SO SMOOTH now!”

And a fourth said: "LET'S GO THE BEST BOI IS HOME!!!!"

This has been a common comment on X-Men ’97, with some fans calling it the

‘perfect’ way to reboot an old show.

Someone took to X to say: “Every week I think X-Men ‘97 can’t get more perfect, and every week it does.”

If they keep bringing back classic characters, writing incredible stories, and being the most faithful adaptation of the comics at Marvel right now – it’s hard to see that trend ending.
