Ryan Gosling has opened up about what it was like filming with Margot Robbie on the set of Barbie, revealing how she'd send him gifts on set every day.

If you've been living under a rock for the last year or so, you might not have heard Robbie and Gosling are starring alongside one another in the upcoming, highly-anticipated, live-action movie, Barbie, as none other than Barbie and Ken.

As if working alongside someone as talented as Robbie wasn't a gift enough already, Gosling has revealed he received daily presents from his co-star while on the set of the film.

Revealing what it was like working alongside the Australian actor in an interview with Vogue, Gosling explained how he discovered his version of Ken.

While initially joking: "It would be very un-Ken of me to talk about Ken," he later explained his process of finding the characterisation was aided by Robbie.

"She left a pink present with a pink bow, from Barbie to Ken, every day while we were filming. They were all beach-related. Like puka shells, or a sign that says ‘Pray for surf.’ Because Ken’s job is just beach," Gosling continued.

"I’ve never quite figured out what that means. But I felt like she was trying to help Ken understand, through these gifts that she was giving."

In order to find her version of Barbie, Robbie tried 'animal work' - a technique she's adopted in other notable movies, such as Babylon and I Tonya, taking on the qualities of an octopus and honey badger for Nellie and a pit bull and mustang for Tonya.

Alas, the 'animal work' proved to little avail in helping Robbie get to grips with her blonde-hair, blue-eyed and pink-obsessed lead role in Barbie - you guessed it, she tried a flamingo, but sadly it didn't take flight.

Instead, Robbie enlisted the advice of the movie's director Greta Gerwig, who sent her an episode of This American Life podcast 'about a woman who doesn't introspect'.

It didn't take long for Robbie and Gerwig to confirm 'Barbie energy' is someone who is 'impossibly beautiful, but you don't hate her for being that beautiful, because she's so genuinely sincere, an she's so enthusiastically kind, that it's almost dorky."

As if social media users couldn't get enough of the upcoming release already, fans of Barbie have flooded to Twitter in appreciation of Robbie's gift-giving to Gosling to help him find his Ken.

One Twitter user said: "She's slowly turning him gay," to which another responded: "She's a queen for that."

A third commented: "This is what jared leto did except for normal people."

"Finally a normal display of method acting," another chimed.

And a final resolved: "Already an iconic duo. Ugh their minds."
