It does have a certain ring to it

With two more sleeps until the big day, many people across the country will be celebrating by cracking on a festive classic – and it's safe to assume that Home Alone will be top of the list for numerous film lovers.

With this in mind, some have turned their attention to the movie's main star, Macaulay Culkin, who is synonymous with the holidays thanks to his turn as Kevin McCallister.

But while millions of viewers are familiar with Home Alone and its sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, they might not be aware that Culkin changed his name to something rather bizarre a few years back.

The 42-year-old actor took to his website Bunny Ears in 2018 to argue that his 'middle name is something dumb' before asking fans to send in some ideas of what he could change it to.

"My middle name is something dumb. Larry? Orange? Honestly, I can’t even remember it," he wrote.

"So I asked you all to send in some better options so I can go down to the court house and explain to a judge why I need to change my middle name to something cool."

From the myriad of suggestions, Culkin pulled out five he liked – TheMcRibIsBack, Kieran, Shark Week, Publicity Stunt and Macaulay Culkin.

It's safe to say they were all fine choices, but only one could be the winner.

The Party Monster star decided to hold a vote, which ran until Christmas Eve, so he could 'wake up to a wonderful present from everyone'.

"Sure, I might have gold-plated watercraft, and chrome plated invisibility cloaks, but all I want for Christmas is a new middle name," he quipped.

And that he did.

Macaulay Culkin stood by his word.

Taking to Twitter on Christmas day that year, he revealed that in 2019, his legal name would be changed to (drum roll)... Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.

"It has a nice ring to it (if you like my name)," he said.

And he stood by his word, with the actor's Wikipedia page even starting off with 'Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin'.

Although his tweet spread far and wide, it's easy to forget that this actually happened – especially when you consider everything that's gone down since 2018.

But this year, fans are keeping the hilarious memory alive, with one writing on Twitter: "We're watching Home Alone 2 and I just remembered that Macaulay Culkin changed his name to Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin. Magic."

It does have a certain ring to it.

Another said: "Macaulay Culkin changing his name to Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin is HILARIOUS."

And a third chimed in: "I found out recently that Macaulay Culkin's (Kevin from Home Alone) middle name is Macaulay Culkin and his name is Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin and I laugh about it regularly."

As do we – let's never forget this bit of festive film trivia.
