Nothing is safe anymore as Netflix is removing its first ever original series

Lilyhammer, the first Netflix Original, looks set to leave the streaming platform

It is a common occurrence for Netflix to remove shows from its streaming platform each month, whether that is due to licensing agreements running its course or a show declining in popularity.

Recently though, fans have been noticing that the streaming giant are starting to remove more Netflix Originals from the monthly subscription.

And the next title which looks set to leave truly suggests that no series is safe from the chop.

The very first Netflix original series Lilyhammer might be set to depart soon after ten years on Netflix, sources close to IndieWire have claimed.

They said that the 10-year license agreement will be set to expire in November, with no plans to extend it.

Lilyhammer ran from 2012 to 2014, and followed a New York mobster Frank Tagliano (Steven Van Zandt) who testified against his former associates, and as result, went into hiding in rural Lillehammer, Norway.

It also featured the likes of Trond Fausa Aurvåg taking on the role of Torgeir Lein and Steinar Sagen as Roar Lien.

While Lilyhammer is considered the first Netflix Original show, it actually had been licensed to a different channel.

12 days before it launched on Netflix, it had been aired on the Norwegian broadcast channel, TV NR in 2012.

And in February this year, the streaming platform honoured its first original series for its 10-year anniversary this year.

In a blog post, Netflix Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos talked about how if it wasn't for Lilyhammer, the likes of Dark Desire, Lupin - or even Squid Game - may not have come to fruition.

He also recalled the initial conversation with Van Zandt about bringing the show to Netflix.

He said: "I asked if we could read the scripts and Stevie said, “Scripts? I can send you the whole season - We watched it and we loved it."

And recently, the actor took to Twitter to share his disappointment at Lilyhammer leaving, however, he said that he hadn't had it confirmed by Netflix officials.

"I haven’t had it confirmed, but it looks like Lilyhammer is about to be disappearing from Netflix, for which it was the very first show, on Nov 20.

"Some birthday present! Big drag. It’s only 24 episodes. So if you haven’t seen it, or want to rewatch it, you’d better do it now."
