One of 2021's most-talked-about show's was the gore-fest that is Squid Game and it looks like the third season could have a big-name star.

The revelation was made by the hit Korean show's director Hwang Dong-hyuk on Friday (16 September) at a congratulatory press conference held by Netflix.

Hwang was then asked if he could reveal any potential big-name Hollywood stars for the second season, and it seems like he already has a name that he's interested in.

The first season of Squid Game was an international hit.

He said: "There will be no known Hollywood actor in Season 2. That’s not in the plan and if the stage changes, maybe in Season 3 - but for Season 2, it is still set in Korea.

"Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of ‘Squid Game,’ so maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games."

While it's been just over a year since Squid Game was first dropped on Netflix, we'll sadly have a bit longer to wait to get our next fix of the unbelievable show.

"We will start shooting Season 2 next year and it’ll be released the following year," Hwang said, adding that the show will have an even bigger budget the second time around, so is likely set to be even better viewing.

And, on the off chance that you haven't got round to watching season one, it centres around a game that sees contestants in debt compete to the death over a large cash prize.

They are then eliminated in a brutal series of trials that had viewers on the edges of their seats.

This month's conference was held following the show's incredible success at the Emmy Awards, which Hwang hopes will pave the way for more Korean content to reach wider audiences.

The show won six awards at the prestigious event: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Lee Jung-jae), Outstanding Directing for A Drama Series for Hwang, Outstanding Guest Actress in A Drama Series (Lee Yoo-mi), Outstanding Production Design for Narrative Contemporary Program, Outstanding Stunt Performance and Outstanding Special Effects in A Single Episode.

The director said: "Though much news about Squid Game has been released and we've received many awards, what’s more important and happy for me is the fact that Korean content is reaching out and well-loved by so many people around the world.

"I hope more Korean content, similar to Seasons 2 and 3 of Squid Game, will be released so that more brilliant filmmakers, actors and actresses will gain more opportunities to meet global audiences."

Are there any big-name actors you'd like to see in Squid Game?
