Jennifer Lawrence admits her frustration at being paid $5m less than Leonardo DiCaprio for Don’t Look Up

"I’m still not going to get paid as much as that guy, because of my vagina?"

It might have been more than a year since Don't Look Up dropped on Netflix and divided audiences, but the gender pay gap issue is still a major talking point in Hollywood.

Case in point: one of the film's main stars, Jennifer Lawrence, recently opened up to share her frustration at being paid $5 million less than her co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Now, some of you might be thinking that it's a bit rich for highly-paid actors to be talking about salary issues.

But the Hunger Games star acknowledged the fact that while actors are particularly overpaid, the discrepancy is part of a wider issue.

Jen and Leo were the top names in Adam McKay's comedy film, starring as two scientists who try desperately to warn the world of an approaching comet that's set to wipe out all of humanity.

But according to a Variety report on the biggest movie stars' salaries, Lawrence earned $25 million for the Netflix film, while DiCaprio made $30 million – even though Lawrence was the top-billed actor.

Speaking about the issue in an interview with Vogue for the October 2022 issue, Lawrence admitted that the pay gap was 'bothersome'.

She said: "It doesn’t matter how much I do. I’m still not going to get paid as much as that guy, because of my vagina?"

And this isn't the first time that Lawrence has been subject to pretty notable pay gaps compared to her male co-stars.

Back in 2014, Sony Pictures computers were hacked into and it was eventually revealed that Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper were paid more than her and Amy Adams for the film American Hustle.

When the news of the pay gap leaked at the time, Jennifer penned an essay, writing: "When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with d**ks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself."

Elsewhere in her interview with Vogue, Lawrence also commented on rumours that she had slept with Harvey Weinstein.

Weinstein, who produced The Silver Linings Playbook, is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Beckinsale, and Cara Delevingne were among the hundreds of women who had stepped forward and to make accusations about him.

A 2018 lawsuit against the producer saw Weinstein boast about sleeping with Lawrence, allegedly stating: "I slept with Jennifer Lawrence and look where she is; she has just won an Oscar."

And Lawrence, who outright denied the claims at the time, made a point to dismiss the rumour once again during a round of 73 Questions.

When asked what the most 'bizarre' thing she had ever read about herself was, she replied: "That I f***ed Harvey Weinstein."

That'll be the end of that.
