The third season of The Mandalorian is about to hit our screens and it's official - Cara Dune is back!

The character, played by actress Gina Carano, will stay alive but unfortunately for fans of Carano, she won't be returning to the Star Wars spin-off series.

Watch the trailer here:

After making controversial comments in 2021, the Deadpool actor was let go by Disney and fans of the series feared the worst for Cara Dune.

She was dropped from The Mandalorian following a series of controversial social media posts, including one post in which she compared being a conservative in 2021 to being Jewish during the Holocaust.

At the time, a Lucasfilm statement read: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.

"Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable."

However, producers have now spoken out to reassure fans and to reveal the future of the character as the third season of the Star Wars spin off airs.

Speaking to Deadline, executive producer Rick Famuyiwa confirmed that Cara Dune will still be alive in the Star Wars galaxy despite Carano's axeing.

He said: "Cara was a big part and continues as a character to be part of the world. It had to be addressed in the creative and [Jon Favreau] took the time to think about that.

"It was something that was discussed as we knew it was going to have impact on the show, but at the same time, what has been at the heart of the show are the two characters — Din Djarin and Grogu — so ultimately it felt like a servicing of that, and around the Mandalorians."

And executive producer Dave Filoni also revealed that the series would be moving in a different direction, allowing Cara Dune to remain alive without needing her to be a focal part of the third season.

He explained: "It’s a big galaxy and we have many characters in it — many characters are fighting for their screen time.

"We’ll just have to see as the season unfolds what the adventures are, but it’s a great character, someone who was vital to Din Djarin’s beginnings; we’ll see if he has evolved beyond that.

"Now Season 3 is mainly dealing with Mandalorians and the Mandalorian saga, the Mandalorian tale.

"[There’s] different characters he’s met since Bo-Katan [who] take a lot more prominence, which makes sense where his arc is going, the story of him and Grogu specifically."

Earlier this year, Carano hit back at criticisms that she had damaged her career by making the comments that saw her cut from Disney+.
