Giancarlo Esposito has confirmed he’s had talks with Marvel and may even appear as Professor Charles Francis Xavier in the next X-Men instalment.

The 64-year-old actor, famous from The Boys and Breaking Bad, told a crowd at the TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio that he's very keen to play the iconic superhero.

"So, I have not worked for Marvel yet," he explained to the crowd.

"I've been in a room with them and talked with them, and to answer your question, I think what they do is on the lines of that mythological journey that Joe Campbell talked about, who happened to be a friend of George Lucas that George Lucas put into his stories. They do the same thing."

He continued: "So, there's been talk of Magneto, there's been talk of Dr Freeze, there has been talk of, who else are they talking about over there?

“Oh, Doom! And there is Professor X. Pick one? I'm going to go for something that is a little bit different. I'm going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.”

Look, we respect that Esposito is manifesting this, and we have to agree he’d be the perfect replacement for Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy.

While little is known about the upcoming X-Men flick, Deadline reports that production could even happen sooner than we think.

However, the franchise would be rebooted under a different name titled The Mutants, which is the name the late Stan Lee originally would have given the series back in 1963.

And as rumours continue to swirl about who’d be joining the cast, Rocketman actor Taron Egerton has even thrown his hat in the ring to portray Wolverine.

Speaking to Variety, the actor said he was aware of the internet's calls to play the character, which began shortly after Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced the franchise would eventually be coming to the MCU.

"I love Marvel and I love the movies and I'd love the excuse to get in shape," he said.

"I'd love to be a part of it - whether [Wolverine] is realistic or not, I don't know."

Other actors the internet listed as the perfect candidate to play the mutant include Anthony Starr, Karl Urban and even Daniel Radcliffe.

Whoever ends up scoring the role, we can definitely expect a different kind of Wolverine entering the MCU. We can't wait to sink our claws in.
