Charlie Cox has revealed that shooting starts for the new Disney+ Daredevil series very soon.

Cox, who previously played Matt Murdock/Daredevil for three seasons on Netflix, will reprise the role for a brand new series Daredevil: Born Again.

During a recent interview with the NME, the star said he would be spending most of next year shooting the new series.

He said: “They said to me, ‘We’re going to be shooting in 2023’. I said, ‘Great, when?’ They said, ‘All 2023’. I start shooting in February and finish in December.”

The reboot is the biggest Marvel project Disney + has done so far, totalling 18 episodes.

Cox said: “I’m fascinated to discover why they’ve chosen to do 18. I’m imagining there’s going to be an element to it that is like the old-school procedural show. Not necessarily case-of-the-week, but something where we go really deep into Matt Murdock the lawyer and get to see what his life is like.

"If that’s done right and he really gets his hands dirty with that world… I think there’s something quite interesting about that, to spend a lot of time in a superhero’s day-to-day life and you really earn the moments when he suits up.”

Fans of the original Netflix series may remember that it was pretty dark and gory - something Cox thinks may be toned slightly for Disney+.

“My opinion is this character works best when he’s geared towards a slightly more mature audience,” Cox explained.

“My instinct is that on Disney+ it will be dark but it probably won’t be as gory. I would say to [people hoping the Disney+ show copies the Netflix show], we’ve done that. Let’s take the things that really worked, but can we broaden? Can we appeal to a slightly younger audience without losing what we’ve learned about what works?”

Cox had the chance to debut the new version of the character in She Hulk: Attorney At Law earlier this year, much to the delight of fans.

As yet there’s no release date for Daredevil: Born Again, but it's set to land at some point in 2024 - however, fans won’t have to wait that long to see the character as he’s set to appear in Disney+ series Echo, which comes out next year.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cox will reprise the role alongside Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio who played super villain Wilson Fisk/Kingpin.
