Bridgerton uses bizarre prop in sex scenes to make them look more realistic

One of Bridgerton's best kept secrets is the prop used to make the intimate scenes look real.

One of Bridgerton's best kept secrets - one that Lady Whistledown might not be privy to - is the unusual prop used to make the show's intimate scenes look realistic.

The Netflix period drama has been a smash hit for the streaming service and one aspect of the show that keeps viewers' eyeballs glued to screens are the raunchy sex scenes.

Season one was all about Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page) and their outrageous romps. Meanwhile, season two explored the saucy will-they-won’t-they relationship between Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey).

Speaking of Jonathan Bailey, the actor spilled all the juicy details about the Shonda Rhimes show’s sex scenes and if you happen to be a fan of sports, you’ll definitely want to read this.

While a pillow horrifyingly took centre stage in a recent Netflix sex scene, Bailey explained that the magic behind Bridgerton's provocative escapades is a half-inflated netball, which acts as a stand in for a male character’s you-know-what.

“It’s amazing how that whole industry has just come on, even in a year,” he shared with Radio Times ahead of the premiere of season two last year.

“There are new tricks to the trade [like] little cushions, and it’s amazing what you can do with a half-inflated netball."

Bailey added: “If there are two people doing a sex scene, the rule is they must have three barriers separating them.

"And there are certain acts where a half-inflated netball can allow for movement without having to connect physically.”

One intense scene that fans are still obsessing over happened in the fifth episode of season two, when Anthony and Kate confront each other after a disastrous dinner between Bridgertons, Sharmas and Sheffields.

"You are the bane of my existence, and the object of all my desires," Anthony told Kate, leaving fans at home swooning.

The hotly anticipated third season of Bridgerton is on the way and series star Nicola Coughlan teased what's in store for Penelope Featherington and, of course, Lady Whistledown.

Fans desperate to see Penelope and Colin Bridgerton's (Luke Newton) flirtations play out will be pleased to know that season three will focus on 'Polin', as the pair's friendship finally blossoms into something more.

Confirming the news and speaking about what's to come at Netflix’s FYSEE Space, Nicola said: “Like Lady Whistledown, I have been keeping a secret for quite some time and I can confirm to you all that season three is Colin and Penelope’s love story.

“I have kept that secret since two weeks into Season 2. This is the first time I am saying it here.”

Let's hope they have the half-inflated netball on hand...
